Message from President
 Bonnie Chapman

Greetings Soroptimists!

What is the most important subject a witch learns in school?

Spelling!

We have a week full of fun stuff! Looking forward to our Halloween Party at TJ Farms and of course to Saturday evening's Dueling Pianos! Thanks for all the work our committees are putting into creating these events for all of us.

Next up, we have the opportunity to volunteer along the course for the Girls on the Run celebration 5K on Saturday November 10. Click the sign up link if you would like to help. It's really fun and energizing to watch all these young ladies reach their goal. We also have a handful of free entries to the race if anyone wants to RUN a 5K, just let me know!

We also have our annual Christmas in November at our lunch meeting on 11/14. It's going to be fun, low key and hopefully feature some services donated by members. Farm fresh eggs delivered by President Bonnie anyone?! Contact Kathy Erickson if you have something to contribute.

It's another great week to be a Soroptimist!

With Gratitude,

Renee Thatford

Hi, my name is Renee Thatford. I am a Native Californian, but not a Native Chicoan. I am originally from the Bay Area and came to Chico in 1991 to attend Chico State, as most of us do. I studied and graduated with my Bachelors in Social Work in 1996. After graduation, I worked in the social work field for a year, but soon realized social work was not my "thing." I also realized I was not done being a kid. So, in the summer of '97, I became a Girl Scout camp counselor in Bailey, Colorado. I came back to Chico after my summer adventure, but still heard Colorado calling my name. So, I packed up my Little Red 1990 Honda CRX and headed for Breckenridge, Colorado to become a ski bum for the season. During that season, I worked at a t-shirt shop and cashiered at the ski resort. However, shortly after my arrival in Breckenridge, I fell in love with a man named Dan, was engaged the following spring, and married April 17 th, 1999. We lived in Breckenridge for another year, but knew there wasn't much opportunity for us, so we moved to Chico and have been here ever since.  Together, we have a beautiful 16 year old daughter named Patricia, who is a junior at Chico High School and part of their Golf Team. Our family enjoys spending our summers camping on the weekends and skiing in the winter.

I have been a member of Soroptomist for the past 4 years and I look forward to many more years with Soroptomist.

Halloween Facts & Trivia

The following is credited from The Examiner's post  By Kelly Evenson

Halloween, celebrated on Oct. 31, originally started as nothing more than an autumn harvest festival. Today, the holiday is associated with ghosts, costumes and, of course, candy.
