Halloween Costumes (10/31)

Students in all grade levels are allowed to wear a costume to school on October 31st as long as the costume meets the following criteria:

  • Costumes should be "kid-friendly" and appropriate for ages 5 through 14 as deemed by school administration.
  • Cultural appropriation or representation of cultural stereotypes in any way are not permitted. Costumes should not demean any race, culture, gender, or age.
  • Props (including fake weapons) should be left at home.
  • Make-up, masks, or anything else that would make a child difficult to identify should not be used.
  • Students should not wear masks during the school day.
  • Students should wear shoes that are safe and appropriate for recess and PE.
  • If a student comes to school in a costume that violates the criteria above, they will be sent to the office to call home for a parent/guardian to bring a change of clothes.
  • We recommend that students bring a change of clothes with them to school on Halloween, should their costume become uncomfortable.

Halloween Costume Parade (10/31)

  • K-3 students will parade through the school building starting at 2:00pm. Parents are welcome to attend! We ask that parents watch the parade in the lobby instead of walking with their student.
  • Following the parade, students will return to their classrooms to retrieve their belongings and prepare for the standard dismissal process. If you choose to take your student for an early dismissal following the parade, you will need to follow the standard early dismissal procedure.

Homeroom Halloween Parties (10/31)

  • Homeroom teachers and/or room parents will reach out to you with additional information about any class-specific Halloween festivities.
  • If you have questions about class-specific celebrations, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
  • Please note that in keeping with CPS' wellness policy, Halloween classroom celebrations may not include food.
