     Happy Friday!

Tomorrow the Harvest Festival from 12 - 4 pm. We'll have local craft vendors, fun and games for your kids, and end the day with trick-or-treating from vendors at 3:30PM.We're looking forward to having a GREAT time with our community members; come and enjoy the Fall Harvest fun! See you there for the Chili Cook Off and Bake Off!  We still need volunteers. Even just help out for an hour?! Awesome! We're using SignUp for volunteers:  http://signup.com/go/7LxuCD

Walk-a-thon REMINDER - Pledge envelopes are due next Friday, November 4th. Please send your student to class with the envelopes.

Also..... Lakeside brand shirts, sweatshirts and hats are due November 4t h. HERE is the link - shop away!

Congrats to our newly elected Student Council of 4th and 5th graders. Boy, do they have a lot of leadership opportunities ahead of them!

     Vice President - Boxer Kopcsak-Yeung
     Secretary - Maddie Hart
     Treasurer - Divi Greene

Hallloween is on Monday. Reminder that masks and weapons are not allowed with costumes. Our Halloween Parade will start at 2:15 pm, so please join us! That morning at flag salute, we will recognize students who have had perfect attendance for the first trimester. Perfect attendance means no absences, no tardies, and no truancies. Attendance is one of our LCAP Goals and the idea of acknowledging attendance was from parent feedback during our LCAP parent input sessions.

Parents - please send your child to school with a water bottle. We have bottled water, courtesy of the Foundation, for students. We're running out of disposable cups because students are not bringing water bottles. Please also label them so when they show up, we can get them back to the correct child. Thanks for your help with this!

We had a productive and participatory Red Ribbon Week. When our staff discussed and agreed to be a Red Ribbon Week school at our September staff meeting, we were proud to be joining a national initiative on keeping students drug free and making good choices. A special thank you to Cynthia Gingerich for her help with the red wrist bands and for connecting us with CASA of Los Gatos. We were one of the many Los Gatos schools to participate this year, along with Blossom Hill, Daves Avenue, Lexington, Van Meter, Fisher, Los Gatos High, CT English, Loma Elementary, St. Mary's and Hillbrook.

This is late notice, but if you are free tonight.....t he South Skyline Association is  having a presentation about Bats in Our Area. We thought this topic might be of interest to Lakeside students. It starts at at  7:00pm  and meets at the Saratoga Summit fire station on Skyline Blvd. For more info see their October newsletter at  http://southskyline.org/newsletters

Project Cornerstone
This month's Project Cornerstone book for grades 1-5 is My Secret Bully, by Trudy Ludwig. This book addresses relational bullying. Relational bullying refers to “acts of emotional bullying among tightly knit networks of peers.” Instead of using their fists to hit or feet to kick, relational bullying includes under the radar actions like spreading rumors, intimidating and humiliating, excluding and ignoring, as well as manipulating a victim.

Newsela News
This year our school has most classes on Newsela, a website that focused on nonfiction news articles, each adjusted for individual student reading levels. Its great prep for life (but also good for the CAASPP tests).

Guess what? Newsela just told us we were one of the 100 Top Performing Schools in the nation for student completion and success on Newsela.             Awesome job, Lakeside!
