WPH is Hiring for a Volunteer Position!

Position Title: Hamilton Employer Connector – Volunteer Position


Location: Hamilton (Including: Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, Grimsby, Waterdown, Flamborough & Glanbrook).


Purpose:

The role of Hamilton Employer Connector is to make contact and educate Hamilton area employers about the work Workforce Planning Hamilton does and share insight of the

Employer One survey and support employers to complete the survey.


The Community Connector will successfully engage in person with employers to educate them about WPH and encourage participation with the Employer One Survey.


Position Summary:

The Hamilton Employer Connector is responsible for:



• Navigating the Hamilton community (ie specific areas of Hamilton will be delegated to Employer Connectors based on preference) by visiting local businesses in person and sharing information provided about the Employer One Survey and supporting employers to complete the survey


• Engaging and educating employers about the Employer One Survey needs and how we can support them to complete the survey


• Your own travel to and from the local office downtown Hamilton and to areas around Hamilton


• Keeping a log of the businesses you visited on documentation provided by WPH


• Attending in-person or virtual on-boarding to learn about the role and engage in the training to be prepared to enter the community with confidence


Benefits of the role:

• Experience engaging directly with employers and building community connections


• Experience volunteering in a well-respected small non-profit organization


• Full onboarding experience and training to familiarize you with Workforce Planning Hamilton, the work we do, and in-depth understanding of the Employer One Survey


• Travel expenses reimbursed followed company policies


Commitment:

• Ideally 4-8 hours per week however,

• Flexibility available to work around volunteer needs


• Volunteering preferred Monday through Friday during regular businesses hours of 9am-

5pm


• February 5th 2024 - March 5 2024 with availability to extend volunteer opportunities


• Availability to participate at Connect to Careers Job Fair on March 5 from 8am-4pm

The Digital Transformation Grant

Are you a Hamilton brick and mortar small business looking to enhance your digital presence? Apply for the $2,500 Digital Transformation Grant today!


The Digital Transformation Grant (DTG) program is designed to assist small businesses with adoption of technologies. The program will provide training, advisory support and grants to brick-and-mortar small businesses looking to increase their capacity through digital transformation.


Participant Requirements:

A Digital Transformation Grant is open to any business that meets the following requirements:


Must be a business that:

  • Has a permanent 'brick-and-mortar' establishment in Ontario
  • Is employing 1-50 employees
  • Is NOT a home-based business
  • Is paying commercial property tax (commercially assessed), either directly or through commercial rent
  • Is a registered business in Ontario and/or is incorporated
  • Is open for business/operating at the time of application (not a start up)
  • Is open to the general public for walk-in and onsite purchases of goods and services - NOT A WHOLESALER OR MANUFACTURER
  • Is NOT a business supplying digital services to other businesses (e.g. website design/development, SEO, programming)
  • Is NOT a franchise, including those individually owned and operated
  • Is NOT a not-for-profit/ charitable organization
  • Is NOT renting office space on a temporary basis (month-to-month)
  • Is NOT in a shared workspace such as a hot desk or dedicated desk
  • Is NOT a purely online business

  Owned by:

  • An Ontario resident operating a business in Ontario.
  • An individual of 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  Has completed the Digital Transformation for Main Street program, which includes:

  • The Digital Main Street Assessment
  • Has passed the eligibility quiz
  • The online training
  • Developing a Digital Transformation Plan

Diverse Learners Free Tutoring Program

The Centre for Diverse Learners, in collaboration with the Join Program, will be launching a free tutoring program designed to assist newcomer children in grades 2-10 who are dealing with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or other mental health issues impacting their learning. To attend the program, you are not required to have an official diagnosis from a clinician - we accept all children with learning difficulties including suspected or diagnosed both. 


This program will specifically focus on teaching mathematics, covering essential areas such as number sense and numeration, patterning and algebra, and mathematical applications. The sessions are scheduled to run from January 15 to March 7, 2024.

Here are the program details:


  • Location: YWCA (75 MacNab St S.)
  • Dates: Mondays & Wednesdays
  • Time: 5-6 PM OR 6:30-7:30 PM

Y Mind Free Mental Wellness Program

Y Mind is here to help young people learn how to cope with stress so they can live their best lives. Y Mind is a FREE seven-well mental wellness program starting January 24th.


Do you or a friend need some help managing stress? Our free Y Mind program teaches effective coping strategies for managing worries and anxiety in a safe, supportive environment led by mental health professionals.

GED Will No Longer Be Available in Canada
