Hamilton Transit Workers Reach 4-Year Agreement | |
Hamilton transit workers, who went on strike for a week this month, ratified their tentative agreement with the City of Hamilton Thursday night.
Eighty-one per cent of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 members voted for the deal, which the local's executive board had endorsed. Bus service resumed last Friday — just before the Grey Cup, during which striking workers had threatened to disrupt a shuttle bus.
During and leading up to the strike, members said they wanted a more significant wage increase than the city said it was prepared to offer. Read the article in the link below.

The Udada Project, is designed to address the mental health needs of Black Female Youth in Canada. As we believe in the importance of diverse perspectives, we are eager to engage with individuals outside our immediate network, and we see your involvement as instrumental in the success of this endeavor.
FBF’s National Survey:
We recently launched a national survey aimed at collecting vital insights from Black female youth aged 16-26. The goal is to contribute to a national report highlighting the unique mental health challenges faced by this demographic.
Website Overview:
In addition to the survey, we are excited to introduce the Udada Project: Community-Led Mental Health for Black Girls and Women. Our newly launched website, [UDADA | Mental Health for Black Female Youth], and information for Black female youth, offering a safe space for accessing resources, engaging in discussions, and finding help.
Why Your Support is Vital:
Mental health disparities among Black female youth are a pressing concern. The lack of data on their mental health status is a critical obstacle, potentially leaving them underserved and at risk.
Your Action Matters:
We invite you to support our cause by taking the following actions:
Share the Survey: Please distribute the survey link among Black female youth aged 16-26 in your network. Their insights will significantly influence the future of mental health services for this age group.
Spread the Word: Encourage your colleagues and friends to share the survey. Your involvement is key to shaping our mission and ensuring effective support for Black female youth.
Call to Action:
Together, we have the opportunity to make a tangible and lasting difference in the mental well-being of Black girls and young women.

HIPC releases the results of Hamilton's first-ever Immigrant Survey. This initiative was carried out as part of a collaborative effort among Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) across Canada (led by Waterloo Region Local Immigration Partnership) to conduct a large survey of immigrants and newcomers in our communities. Our goal was simple: to better understand the needs and experiences of immigrants in order to enable community partners to better support their settlement.
Close to 700 survey participants responded to questions about their experiences with housing, income, employment, service use, settlement supports, belonging/isolation, and discrimination. They also shared ways that they contribute to life in Hamilton, expressed their greatest challenges, and made various recommendations to improve future settlement experiences.
A huge thank you to our HIPC staff, community partners, community ambassadors and survey respondents! We could not have done it without you.
Beginning on November 8, we will be releasing key findings from our survey across our social media platforms. Stay tuned each Wednesday as we share the experiences of immigrants living in Hamilton.
Our full report is now live on our website, click here to read it now.

Partnership-driven ISET program helps Indigenous learners launch their careers
Marginalized communities have long been disadvantaged regarding employment, training and career opportunities. According to Statistics Canada, only 63% of Indigenous youth have completed high school, compared with 91% of the non-Indigenous population. This pattern has continued into post-secondary education, as non-Indigenous youth were twice as likely to have completed or attended a post-secondary program as First Nations youth.
