2019 Wedding Season Wrap Up

Complete Weddings + Events Virginia Beach

It often seems like spring and summer are the most popular seasons to get married, but actually fall is a very popular wedding season and often the busiest for photographers and event planners. There are so many obvious reasons why fall is the best time to get married. We are currently in the thick of fall wedding season here in Hampton Roads and so far, it's been magical. From beautiful florals to amazing venues, fall has already given us weddings that have exceeded expectations.

Martha Stewart Weddings has a great article about why vendors love fall weddings so much and we couldn't agree more.

One of the reasons we (and many couples) love fall for weddings is because of the gorgeous light! There is something to be said for a summer sunset, but dusk in the fall comes with a warm, glowing light that warms your soul. Maybe it's the sun reflecting off the gorgeous warm colors of the foliage or the crisp feeling in the air as the sun sets. The bonus of having a fall wedding is that amazing golden light is earlier in the day, which means your photographer is more likely to capture it during your cocktail hour photos.

Near Perfect Weather

Sure, no season is going to be perfect for weddings. There's a drawback to each season. And the drawback to fall weddings in Virginia, and much of the East coast, is hurricane season. But, if your big day doesn't get rained on, you can have near perfect weather. For the most part, the intense heat of summer has passed and the cooler mornings and evenings of fall have come. Your guests won't get hot dancing the night away at an outdoor reception, nor will they roast in suits and gowns at your outdoor ceremony. If you choose to have an indoor wedding, you can sneak outside for some photos without being too cold or hot.

Elle Decor has a great list of ideas for your outdoor fall wedding so you can take advantage of the gorgeous weather. If you're worried about your guests being chilly, here are some fun ways to warm them up:

  • Have a basket of blankets outside for your ceremony so your guests can get cozy
  • Have a bonfire- bonus: you can make late night s'mores!
  • Serve a warm cocktail, like a Hot Toddy, or a non-alcoholic drink like hot chocolate or coffee
Fall Foliage & Interesting Florals

Fall is a great season for warm, earth tones or jewel colors like red, purple, and blue. It's also a great season to play with patterns and different textures! Spring and summer seem to be ALL about the flowers, but in the fall you can explore interesting florals that don't fit the traditional flower mold. Dried grasses,  brown lisianthus, Broom corn, rose hips, wheat, seeded eucalyptus, and pampas grass are just SOME of the interesting plants you can incorporate into your fall wedding decor.

While you certainly don't have to have a rustic wedding in the fall, it's a great time to break out your cowgirl boots, flannel blankets, and barn ceremonies. Country Living has a fun list of ideas for your  rustic wedding decor  that will really embrace the season.

Ryann Winn photographed this gorgeous fall wedding this year and we are in love with the color scheme! The orange and blue colors were vibrant, yet soft enough to not be too over the top FALL. The bride looked like a princess in her ball gown from our friends at Blush Bridal.
