Exciting Projects Coming to Hampton Township

Our community is moving forward in a big way, and we’re thrilled to share several projects that will soon bring new energy, amenities, and improvements to Hampton Township.

McDonald’s Rebuild on Center Road

McDonald’s on Center Road has begun a full redevelopment of their site. The existing building is currently being demolished, making way for a brand‑new, modern restaurant. This investment reflects continued commercial growth in our area and will provide an updated dining experience for residents and visitors.

Culver’s Coming to Hampton Township

We’re excited to officially welcome Culver’s to the community. The popular restaurant plans to build a new location at 2711 Center Avenue, bringing more dining options and economic activity to the township. Construction preparations are underway, and we look forward to seeing this project take shape.

Pickleball Courts at Pondside Park

Construction has begun on four new pickleball courts at Pondside Park. Pickleball continues to grow in popularity, and these courts will offer residents a fun, accessible way to stay active and enjoy time outdoors. This addition strengthens our commitment to expanding recreational opportunities for all ages.

Center Avenue (M25) Lighting Improvements

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will soon begin installing and replacing new light poles and fixtures along Center Avenue (M-25). These upgrades will enhance visibility, safety, and the overall appearance of the corridor. Improved lighting supports both local businesses and community members who travel through the area.

Timeless Events

Currently under construction and nearing completion is a new elegant barn‑style event center, Timeless Events located at 601 Garden Lane which is off Knight Road between Center Road (M-25) and Ridge Road. Former Rite Aid Building

Hampton Township is pleased to share an update on the former Rite Aid building, located 1490 W Center Road. The property has been purchased and is currently undergoing renovation to become a new gas station and convenience store. The transformation of this vacant building marks a positive step in revitalizing the area. Renovation work is already underway, with improvements being made both inside and outside the structure to prepare it for its new use.

Dogs at the Parks - Community Pet Etiquette

Electric or Motorized Vehicles in Parks

At the July 6 Board of Trustees meeting, officials introduced Ordinance 72, a proposed regulation aimed at improving safety within Township parks. The ordinance is scheduled for consideration and possible adoption at the upcoming August 10 board meeting.

If approved, Ordinance 72 would prohibit all non‑motorized vehicles—including bicycles, e‑bikes, scooters, skateboards, and similar devices—within Township Park boundaries.

Township officials say the proposal comes in response to ongoing safety concerns, particularly on the new walking path at Pondside Park. Reports have indicated that e‑bikes and scooters have been traveling at unsafe speeds or weaving around pedestrians, creating hazards for walkers, and families using the trail.

The Board emphasized that the goal of Ordinance 72 is to protect park visitors and preserve the intended use of the walking paths, which were designed for foot traffic and quiet recreation.

Residents are encouraged to attend the August 10 meeting to share feedback or learn more about the ordinance before the Board votes on its adoption.

The State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) prohibits electric bikes and scooters on gravel paths or natural-surface paths, such as the Nature Trail in Hampton Township. This state‑level restriction reinforces the need for clear, consistent rules to protect park visitors and maintain safe recreational spaces.

Ordinance 72 will not apply to individuals who rely on motorized mobility devices due to disabilities or accessibility needs. These accommodations are protected under state and federal law, and such use will continue to be permitted within Township parks.

August 4th Primary Election

Things to Remember When Voting

As the upcoming primary election approaches, voters are being urged to carefully review their ballots to ensure their votes count. In a primary election, you may only select candidates from one party—either the blue section (Democratic) or the red section (Republican). Choosing candidates from both parties will result in a spoiled ballot, and none of your selections will be counted.

Election officials emphasize that this is one of the most common mistakes made during primary voting. The ballot is clearly divided by party, but it’s still easy to accidentally mark a candidate in each section if you’re not paying close attention. Before submitting your ballot, double‑check that all your selections fall within a single party column. If you have made a mistake on your ballot, need to spoil your ballot or need a ballot, contact Amanda DeWyse, Clerk, at adewyse@hamptonmi.net.

Voters are also reminded to turn over the ballot. Many primary ballots include additional proposals, local questions, or nonpartisan items on the back that require your vote. Failing to flip the ballot means missing important issues that affect your community.

Taking a moment to review your ballot can prevent errors and ensure your voice is heard in every part of the election. Please confirm details with your local election officials or trusted state resources.
