U.S. Representative Houlahan Tours Handi-Crafters

We had a terrific visit and tour with United States Representative, Chrissy Houlahan on Friday, July 19th.  Houlahan serves Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District. It was the first visit to Handi-Crafters by the Representative. We spent the tour briefing the Congresswoman about our history, the work we do and the great people we serve through employment.

Chrissy also enjoyed the opportunity to meet with some of our staff members and talked with our clients. We appreciate Representative Houlahan  for taking the time to tour Handi-Crafters and to learn more about the importance of our programs and services.

We Know PENNSYLVANIA'S MISS AMAZING!

Elizabeth Myambo is a very busy woman and holds down a packed schedule. Elizabeth works at Handi-Crafters, she also works at Giant Foods. In her free time, Elizabeth competes in the Special Olympics, and is an active member of her Church.  Elizabeth also added pageant competition to her already busy schedule and has been participating in Miss Amazing Pageants. In March 2019, Elizabeth's dedication paid off and she was chosen Pennsylvania Miss Amazing Pageant Senior Queen.

As a Senior Queen she has had a full schedule of appearances and  engagement activities such as volunteering at various community organizations. Elizabeth also needed to prepare for the national competition to be held next month in Chicago.

The Miss Amazing Organization was created to offer girls and women with special abilities the chance to develop and showcase self-esteem, poise, public speaking skills, beauty and talent in a supportive environment. Elizabeth's mother, Carol says she is grateful for this experience for Elizabeth and
that the Miss Amazing organization has really helped increase
Elizabeth's  confidence and poise.

Elizabeth says that she enjoys dressing up for the evening gown competition which makes her feel very special. During the Pennsylvania State competition, Elizabeth performed a praise dance to the song "Rise Up" which showcased her modern dance talent. Elizabeth has dedicated herself to many hours of practice. She plans to perform the piece again for the talent program on the national stage.

We wish Elizabeth amazing success at the national pageant.
We know she will shine bright!

Hilton Garden Inn-Exton|West Chester

An Extra Shout-Out to Miss Krista Hipp. You may recall we featured Krista in our January Newletter. We highlighted Krista because she works at Handi-Crafters and also works in the Laundry Services Department at the Hilton Garden Inn, Exton|West Chester. Krista loves her jobs and is a very hard worker.

Krista has done an outstanding job in her tenure at the Hilton Garden Inn, so much that,  her coworkers and manager recently nominated her for The Associate of the Month Award.  The recognition is given to an Associate for "going above and beyond" in his/her job at the Hotel. Krista's colleagues also recognized Krista for her contagious smile and positive attitude. General Manager, David Hirsch was very happy that Krista was nominated for the Associate of the Month and shared that "Sometimes we're up to our eyeballs in stress and minutiae, and Krista reminds me of why we are in this business of hospitality and that we need to smell the roses around us."

As the Associate of the Month, Krista received a special plaque and a paid day off. Upon receiving the award, Krista was totally surprised and eager to show her friends at Handi-Crafters.  "I am proud of myself," Krista said. Congratulations, Krista Hipp!
