Towering Accomplishments and Striking Up Some Fun in Atlanta!
The Hanover Construction teams celebrated 1230 West Peachtree’s Top-Out milestone with a full day of fun and surprises! As the teams entered the hoist in the morning, they were surprised to see the commemorative artwork spray painted on the wall above. Bob Dyment (General Superintendent) had secretly arranged for Wesley Moore, a talented graffiti artist, who works for our subcontractor (ASC) to come in the night before and paint a memorable piece of art showcasing the Topping-Out accomplishment. This eye-catching creation brought a smile to everyone’s face and kicked off the luncheon in the Hanover way. Bob’s HR team (Alecia Tabb - Sr HR Generalist, Roxanne Cox - CHRO, and Yvette Gaubert - HR Manager) were quick to jump in front of the hoist wall to capture this epic moment.

More than 400 subcontractors and team members rode to the 22nd floor to sign sheets of drywall that will be installed in the building, select a t-shirt that was custom designed by the team, enjoy a BBQ lunch and pick up a ticket for their chance to win a prize in the raffle. Bob kicked off the raffle by sharing some Fun Facts about the West Peachtree project to help illustrate the significant scope of the team’s work.
-
Fun Fact 1: Equivalent to 3,978 concrete trucks, the project poured 35,800 yards of concrete. This is 16 miles of trucks if you parked them end-to-end.
-
Fun Fact 2: The project used 2900 tons of rebar – weighing as much as 386 elephants!
-
Fun Fact 3: 227 miles of wire is estimated for the job. This is the equivalent of running wire from Atlanta, GA to Charlotte, NC.
-
Fun Fact 4: 14.2 miles of PVC are on the job. And, the team used enough CPVC to lay it from Atlanta to Lake Lanier – 39.8 miles!
-
Fun Fact 5: The project used nearly 5 acres of glazing (213,729 SF) and glass (191,821 SF)
-
Fun Fact 6: It took more than 200,000 manpower work hours to hang 60,000+ sheets of dry wall using 130,000+ studs and over 10,000 buckets of joint compound.
-
Fun Fact 7: The project used more square footage of tile than 3 football fields (amenity tile- 27,216 SF, unit tile- 136,428 SF, and landscaping tile & stone- 24,761 SF)
- But the most important Fun Fact is that this team put their hearts and souls into this project and have the smiles to show for it.
Everyone was thrilled to win gift cards, tools, custom hardhats, toolboxes, camping equipment, Yeti coolers and even big screen televisions!
Later that night, the Construction, Property Management and Corporate team members came together to strike up some fun at The Painted Duck in Atlanta. This unique form of bowling uses a “duckpin” ball which is about half the size of a regular bowling ball and has no finger holes, so you must roll the ball with the palm of your hand. Duckpins are shorter and lighter, making it much more difficult to get a strike. The HR department used animal-themed socks to assign employees to their teams, and all were excited to let the good times roll! Jim McMichael (VP) led the event by adorning his duck hat and as you see in the video below, he wasn’t afraid to spread his wings and fly! (Click icon to play)
| |
The competition required bowlers to participate in three different and individually challenging events for three frames. Requiring bowlers to throw the ball with their non-dominant hand, backward and ‘granny-style’ helped level the playing field. Here we see Chase Le Blanc - Director of Landscape Architecture, Dustin Sheridan - Superintendent, West Peachtree, and Bob Dyment – General Superintendent all demonstrating their perfect form.
|
But it was Drew Hardin, Property Manager for Alexan on 8th, who started the competition with his first strike and never looked back! Through his laser focus and target precision, Drew took first place in the men’s division with 83 points. Honorable mention goes to Drew’s co-worker and our second-place winner, Abdallah Alsanoussi - Assistant Maintenance Supervisor at Alexan on 8th, with a solid 81 score. Clearly, the Alexan on 8th has been training all year for this event.
In the women’s division, it was a Corporate team member who flew in from Houston to dominate the night. Cecilia Nguyen, Senior Interior Design Associate, scored 61 and wasn’t afraid to plant a heartfelt kiss on her teammate, Kristen Gates, Director of Pre-Development, in an exuberant moment of joy! Cecilia promised to give Kristen some pointers since she was the event’s most-challenged bowler, scoring a meager 29 points. Cecilia will start Kristen’s training regimen when they both get back to Houston.

Every SQUID on this team put up great numbers and helped earn themselves the gold medal.

Jake Descenna (Sr. Project Engineer) and Trevor Brown (Assistant Project Manager) | Hanover Construction Teaches CSU Students
Yesterday, Trevor Brown (Assistant Project Manager) and Jake DeScenna (Senior Project Engineer) were invited to Colorado State University's CON 267 class to give an Intro to RFIs (Requests for Information) presentation to construction students before they head out on their summer internships. RFIs are the way construction personnel ask questions of the design team for various different scenarios in the field or about discrepancies in the contract documents.
Throughout multiple sessions of the pre-internship class, over 120 students learned how to write RFIs from our Hanover professionals. Trevor and Jake gave the students real-world breakdowns of what to expect during an internship and provided multiple examples of how to identify, compile, submit, and distribute RFIs. They finished by handing out drawings and sketches that contained a simple discrepancy. The students then had to identify the issue and draft their own RFI. Fantastic work, Trevor and Jake!
