Brand New -- Open Mic in the Summer
Optimist for peace in spite of it all.  Come help him optimize

Open Mic Greetings

,

As you know, we normally skip our Open Mic for Peace for the summer months but I got a call from one of our favorite contributors to this event, Mark Prime, and he would like to go ahead and host it for July. Mark has been sharing his poems and his 'headline' poetry' for years with us.  He told me that the need for peace doesn't go away in the summer and he is right!
I am thrilled that Mark will do this.  It will be Sunday the 3rd of July, 7:00, at the Omni Center.  We have a brand new air conditioner to boot!  This sounds like a great way to express your patriotism for Peace.
Donna and I will be on the road out west but please do come and support Mark in his effort to keep the ball rolling.  We do appreciate his effort.  Bring a poem or a song, original or not.  Your contribution is welcome. Or, just come enjoy the performance.

Thank you all and thank you Mark!
Peace!
Sincerely,
Kelly and Donna

Jejeu Island South Korea
US Navy to encase it in cement to annoy China
Jejeu Island Korea
Yes this man is putting his body under a heavy machine to stop it

A small island jewel along the south coast, Jejeu Island has been a pristine nature preserve lovingly cared for by its inhabitants.

Now the Navy has decided to build a new base there to 'contain' China, and Jejeu's people are fighting a nonviolent campaign to save it.  Can you help?  There are a couple of numbers you can call at this link:

New Paradigm
New paradigms arise out of necessity.  Mikel Lolly describes one when he wrote to the Green Economy Group today...

Hey new paradigm,  No attachments today.

You out there?  What will you ultimately look like?  Will we adapt quickly enough to seize all of the opportunities for the Early Adopters?  Well, the jury is still out on this for Arkansas.

We could within the next 18 months go from last place with five other states with no Energy Plan whatsoever, to 1st place, and be among the top 6 six states with an assertive plan that acknowledges that the status quo, or business as usual, will not sustain us, nor will it allow us to be competitive in the new paradigm.

Paradigm's by definition arise out of necessity.  Necessity to change because the former ideals, and institutions and systems that sprang into existence around those ideals no longer serve their intended purpose or are no longer relevant to the new challenges of the day.  We are there.  We must change.

Human history tells us that we tend to cling to what we know, to the status quo.  After all, it is what has made us so successful.  Those deniers refute the evidence, the science, the pure reason and the logic as long as they can while the mounting evidence keeps pouring in.   The deniers rebuttals becoming that much more absurd with each passing year.  We are there.  We have deniers all around us rejecting Mother Nature, rejecting, physics, biology and chemistry.  Mother Nature is nothing but physics, biology and chemistry.

The new paradigm of our day acknowledges this and includes the brilliant models found in the natural world for us to mimic and simulate in revising our own systems and institutions to be more inclusive, holistic, and integrated.  These words represent to me what the Green Economy Group is and can be: Inclusive, Holistic and Integrated so as to arrive and the most elegant of solutions to the problems of our day.  Your contributions are not only welcome, but expected.  Please include yourself.  The invitation is a given.

Arkansas Compassion Network training available
Medical marijuana training June 20, 6:00 pm OMNI
Sick people should not be put in prison for using marijuana to relieve their symptoms.  Want to get involved in changing this injustice? Training is available to get signatures on a citizens initiative that will be on the ballot in the next election.  We need a large network of volunteers from across the state to pass medical marijuana in Arkansas, and we're counting on you to help make this a reality.

Join us Monday June 20, 6:00-7:30 pm at the OMNI Center (near Liquor World) in Fayetteville to get trained to be a volunteer and meet the campaign crew. Staff will go over basic petitioning rules, talking points, and more. There are some important rules and requirements that are essential to learn before canvassing. The training is an hour and a half. Free Snacks and Refreshments.

Ballot initiatives are expensive and time consuming process but very rewarding. We need to collect over 123,000 signatures to qualify for the November 2012 ballot. This means we need 300 signatures a day. Canvassing is actually a fun and simple way to help our campaign. Come find out how it works and see how you can make a difference.

Please RSVP on Facebook here.  If you would like to get involved before the training event, signup at www.arcompassion.org/volunteer
