HaMakom Continuing Education Lecture Series

Tuesday, March 14 at 7pm On Zoom

Arlene Goldbard, Presenter

In The Camp of Angels of Freedom:

Goodman, Heschel, Berlin

This presentation is based on Arlene Goldbard’s new book: In The Camp of Angels of Freedom: What Does It Mean to be Educated? The Progressive called it " a stirring autobiographical account of her self-education and the “angels” that lit her path.” Arlene will share 11 portraits of the artists and thinkers who inspired her own education, then focus through readings and discussion on three: the free-thinking public intellectual Paul Goodman; Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and his concept of radical amazement; and Oxford don Isaiah Berlin, who demolished ideological orthodoxy.

Suggested Donation $10-$18

Door Gabbai Sign Up

As you know, we are asking one person each Shabbat morning to be the door guard. That volunteer simply sits in the back while continuing to worship with the congregation and is able to hear the knock on the front door and then open and welcome folks joining our service. Simply CLICK HERE and then type in your name on the date you would like to be the door guard. Thank you in advance for supporting our safety and warmth.

And, Rabbi Jack has been offering the first aliyah to the "door gabbai". A lovely new minhag.

The remarkable story of ninety-nine-year-old Stella Levi, whose conversations with the writer Michael Frank over the course of six years bring to life the vibrant world of Jewish Rhodes, the deportation to Auschwitz that extinguished ninety percent of her community, and the resilience and wisdom of the woman who lived to tell the tale.
