The High Holidays Food Drive, conducted with our friends at Temple Beth Shalom, was a huge success. More than 150 bags of food were collected for the Bag 'n Hand Food Pantry, sponsored by St. John's United Methodist Church.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

Once again, HaMakom is joining Temple Beth Shalom’s Social Justice Committee to provide food for Thanksgiving meals to families in need of assistance. Here's how to take part:

Option 1:

Donate to the Bag n’ Hand Food Pantry, which will provide 360 families a box containing either a turkey or a ham, an apple or pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, margarine, rolls, green beans, and potatoes. Each box will cost $27 and serve 4 to 6 people.

There are two ways to give:

(i) Mail a check (write “Pantry Thanksgiving” in the memo line) payable to St. John’s United Methodist Church to 1200 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87505, or

(ii) Make an online donation using PayPal or a credit or debit card on the Church’s website. For the latter, go to sjumcsantafe.org/bag-n-hand-food-pantry-2/ scroll down to “How Can I financially Support the Pantry” and click on “HERE” which will take you to the church's PayPal donation page. Enter the amount you wish to give and use the dropdown to donate to Food Pantry Thanksgiving Dinner. Select your payment method. Then, write your email or mailing address in the “Write a Note” section so St. John’s can acknowledge your donation.

Option 2:

Collect food items that will be donated to both Youth Shelters & Family Services and the SFPS Adelante Program. Please purchase items and drop them off at TBS for its Youth Group to assemble into meal bags. Each bag should include:

2 cans of fruit

2 cans of soup

2 cans of cranberry sauce

2 large bags/boxes of stuffing

4 cans of veggies (beans, corn, peas)

2 large cans of sweet potatoes

1 NON-PERISHABLE dessert

Additional items if possible:

1 small bag of rice or pasta

1 envelope of gravy mix

1 Albertson's or Smith's gift certificate ($25) to go toward purchasing a turkey

Please drop off your bags at TBS

no later than WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16.

Mental Health Initiative Meeting

Sunday, December 4, 1 PM-2:30 PM MST

All HaMakom and TBS Members Invited

Please join Rabbi Neil and Devin Egber, Social Justice Community Coordinator at TBS, on Sunday, December 4 in person at Temple Beth Shalom from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM to discuss the new mental health initiative being developed.

RSVP directly to Devin Egber, 301-908-5839 (call or text) if you'll be able to join. Also, please let us know if you would like to discuss anything with Rabbi Neil and/or Devin in advance of our first meeting.

Please be thinking of ways we can be specifically addressing different groups in the community. Kids, teenagers, and adults are three categories of people who need different types of support and there are different ways we can be addressing mental health. Some categories to consider include despair & grief, disability & identity, and general wellness.

Thank you all so much for sharing the spirit of concern and compassion. Looking forward to gathering on December 4.
