The Arlington City Council has once again placed the issue of term limits/term lengths on their agenda, without allowing adequate time for public input on the issue. No townhall meetings, etc.
The glaring question is, WHY? And, why the rush? The answer is --- council members want to get the issue on the November 8th ballot. Therefore they must throw something together prior to an August 22 deadline in order to get it on the November ballot.
BACKGROUND
In the November 2018 election, Arlington voters passed Term Limits by 63%. What resulted was the “retirement” of council member who sat in their council seats from 10 to 20 years. The city has not fallen apart since their departure.
The citizens have spoken! They voiced their support FOR TERM LIMITS, just four years ago. WHY is the issue of term limits back on the agenda? Power thirsty politicians are the reason.
CALL TO ACTION
Council members must vote twice to place Term Limits back on the ballot --- November 8, 2022. One of those votes is tonight.
· Call and Email all City Council Members and let them know that your vote matters
· Attend EACH city council meeting at which Term Limits is on the agenda. Sign up to speak and demand the Mayor and Council Members retire this issue.
