Come Out This Saturday for Midlothian Village Day Festival and Mid-Lothian Mines Day Event

Chesterfield Parks and Recreation and Midlothian Moms, a local nonprofit, will cohost the 41st annual Midlothian Village Day Festival & Craft Fair this Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Midlothian Middle School (13501 Midlothian Turnpike).

The Midlothian Village Day Festival is a community event filled with fun activities for the whole family. There will be crafters, community booths, games, inflatables, entertainment, food vendors, a raffle and more.

Prior to the festival, there will be a parade along Route 60 beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will start near Capital Ale House and Winfree Church and the grandstand will be located in front of Midlothian Middle School. Just as a reminder, Route 60 will be closed between Charter Colony Parkway and Old Buckingham/Woolridge roads from 8 a.m. to noon.

Also, in conjunction with Midlothian Village Day, Parks and Recreation is hosting a free Mid-Lothian Mines Day event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Come out to Mid-Lothian Mines Park (13301 North Woolridge Road) and take a trolley tour, while learning about the early coal mining history in Chesterfield and enjoying musical performances, living history demonstrations and period-based children's activities. Concessions also will be available. Parking and admission are free and open to the public.

Beginning Nov. 1, Both County Convenience Centers Will Be Open for Seven-Day Operations

As part of its multifaceted approach to expanding access and reducing the cost of recycling, Chesterfield will commence seven-day operations at both of its convenience centers on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Recyclable materials can be dropped off free of charge during regular operating hours at both the Northern Area Convenience Center (3200 Warbro Road) and the Southern Area Convenience Center (6700 Landfill Drive).

To ensure that one of the facilities is accessible every day during the ramp up to Nov. 1, Chesterfield will open the Southern Area Convenience Center on the next two Wednesdays, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The county also plans to construct express lanes at both convenience centers next spring, allowing citizens who are there solely to drop off recyclables to bypass the payment queue and directly access the recycling area.

Chesterfield Breaks Ground on

Nash Road Extension Project

It’s become an all-too-common scene during central Chesterfield’s peak morning commuting hours: a long line of motorists queueing along northbound Beach Road, waiting for a green light and an opportunity to turn left onto Route 10.

Now relief is on the way.

Five years after the initial community meeting on the Nash Road Extension, the county’s selected contractor has begun work on a $25 million project that will alleviate congestion at that heavily traveled intersection by providing much-needed redundancy in the area’s transportation network.

In addition to a new two-lane roadway, the project also includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Nash and Beach roads and a multi-span bridge over Swift Creek, as well as a new traffic signal and turn lanes at the Nash Road Extension’s intersection with Route 10.

Catch Up on Blog Posts from

In a new article posted to the Chesterfield On Point blog, you can learn more about paranormal activities that have been documented in the county.

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia works closely with a group called RTL Paranormal, which has conducted paranormal investigations at several historic county buildings: Magnolia Grange, Castlewood, the 1892 Jail and Trinity Church.

Back when Magnolia Grange used to host weddings, multiple attendees remarked about how they enjoyed having a staff member in period attire to enhance the authenticity of the ceremony. Only one problem with that … there weren’t any staff in costume at those weddings.

“If it happened once, we might blow it off as a bizarre occurrence," said Bryan Truzzie, historic sites and programs manager for the county’s Parks and Recreation Department. "When it happens two or three times, documented by members of the public, I think there’s some credibility to spirits of family members who have lingered there and have a connection to the site.”

Voters Must Adhere To New State Law Before Casting Absentee Ballot

Registered Chesterfield voters planning to cast an absentee ballot need to meet new requirements before returning their ballot either by mail or in a dropbox (located at all open polling locations),

Recent legislation (HB1948) removed the witness requirement for absentee ballots. Voters are now required to provide the last four digits of their social security number and their year of birth on the ballot envelope.

As stated on the Ballot Return Envelope, your ballot will not be counted if you do not fill in the Statement of Voter on the envelope completely.

Absentee ballots requested by registered Chesterfield County voters are currently being mailed to their respective residences.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot for this year's general election is Oct. 27.
