Chesterfield Unveils 2022 Bond Referendum Plan
County administration presented Chesterfield's planned bond referendum package to the Board of Supervisors at a work session July 27, then joined officials from Chesterfield County Public Schools to brief local media on the plan the following day.

Beginning Sept. 23 with early voting for the 2022 general election and continuing through Election Day on Nov. 8, Chesterfield residents will be asked to vote on the Community Facilities Bond Plan to authorize the issuance of $540 million in General Obligation bonds.

If approved by voters, the bond proceeds will fund 26 capital improvement projects in four categories -- schools, public safety, libraries and parks – over the next eight to 10 years.

Chesterfield Girls Going Back
to Little League Softball World Series!
For the second consecutive year, a team from Chesterfield will compete for the Little League Softball World Series championship!

With a thrilling 4-3 victory over North Carolina on July 27, Chesterfield defended its Southeast Region title and punched its ticket to the 2022 Little League Softball World Series. This year's event will take place from Aug. 9-15 in Greenville, N.C.

The team of 11- and 12-year-old girls from Chesterfield previously won district and state championships, earning a trip to Warner Robbins, Ga., for the regional tournament.

Chesterfield finished as Little League Softball World Series runner-up last year, falling to Oklahoma in the championship game. Four players from that team are going back to the World Series next week; the remainder of the 2021 team aged out of the Major Division.

The Little League Softball World Series games can be streamed live on ESPN+.
ABBA: The Concert, Collective Soul and Switchfoot Rock at River City Sportsplex!
Thanks to everyone who came out to River City Sportsplex last week for the Chesterfield After Hours concerts! We had big, enthusiastic audiences for both shows!

Community Meeting on Proposed Park
in Dale District Set for Aug. 10
On Wednesday, Aug. 10, a community meeting will provide Chesterfield residents an opportunity to learn more and provide input about a proposed new public park, Conifer Road - Anna and Charles Ficke Park, in the Dale District.

The meeting will take place at the Chesterfield Community Development Building, Meeting Rooms A and B, 9800 Government Center Parkway, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Registration Under Way for Fall Session
of Government Citizens Academy!
The Department of Citizen Information and Resources is excited to announce the fall session of the Chesterfield Government Citizens Academy will be offered on Wednesday morning from 9-11:30 a.m.. beginning Sept. 14 and running through Nov. 9.

Registration is already under way. Those who are interested in taking part in the GCA this fall can sign up until Friday, Sept. 2 by visiting chesterfield.gov/govacademy.
 
The Government Citizens Academy provides Chesterfield citizens with an opportunity to learn about their local government and participate in interactive sessions. Participants receive a comprehensive look at the how and the why of local government programs. GCA sessions offer an opportunity for participants to learn directly from department leaders, including members from the Board of Supervisors, as well as offer feedback. 
Chesterfield Airport Accepting Donations for 
School Supplies Drive Through Aug. 12!
It’s almost back to school time! To make sure our students are prepared, the Richmond Executive-Chesterfield County Airport is hosting a community school supplies drive for Chesterfield County Public School students. Donations are being accepted at a several locations around the county through Friday, Aug. 12. 

Suggested items include composition books, pens, pencils, markers, folders, glue, crayons, scissors and index cards.

Consuela Wilson Hired as Chesterfield's
New Accounting Director!
After more than two decades of service to Chesterfield, including the past 20 months as assistant director of accounting, Consuela Y. Wilson has been promoted to lead the county’s Accounting Department.

Wilson was chosen to succeed Donna Arrington, who retired as accounting director June 30.

She began her new assignment on July 11 and was formally introduced at the July 27 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Wilson began her career with Chesterfield in October 2001 as a senior automation analyst. She served as financial systems coordinator from 2007 until 2018, when she was named financial systems manager. She was promoted to assistant accounting director in November 2020. 
Chesterfield Offers Tax Exemption
for Rehabilitating Older Homes
Did you know Chesterfield County allows a partial real estate tax exemption for the rehabilitation, renovation, or replacement of older residential structures?

The goal of this program is to help protect and preserve our aging neighborhoods. Upon approval, the partial tax exemption will be in effect for 15 years and transfers with the real estate. The amount of the exemption is based solely on increased assessment value, not the amount spent on the improvement project. There is no application fee.

Chesterfield to Celebrate Centenarians!
In the coming weeks Chesterfield’s Office of Aging & Disability Services and the Board of Supervisors is planning to recognize and celebrate the county’s centenarians. In order to do that, the county is inviting those turning 100 in 2022 to participate in the festivities by filling out an application.

Centenarians have distinctive experiences and achievements that Chesterfield wants to recognize. 

There are two ways for these community treasures to participate in this year’s recognition: Through either mailed certificates and recognition coins and/or acknowledgement at the Board of Supervisors meeting in September.

The 2022 application deadline for either recognition is Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, by 5 p.m.
Wondering What's in Your Well Water? Cooperative Extension Can Help You Find Out!
Chesterfield is offering homeowners on wells an affordable opportunity to find out what’s in their water. Virginia Cooperative Extension - Chesterfield is offering confidential water testing and education through the Virginia Household Water Quality Program.

Water sample kits are available to residents of Chesterfield and surrounding counties at a cost of $65 per kit. Registration is required before Aug. 12 and space is limited. 

For residents on county water, Chesterfield Utilities operates a state-certified laboratory, publishes an annual water quality report and addresses any customer concerns free of charge.

Plant a Row for the Hungry!
Virginia Cooperative Extension - Chesterfield is challenging you to Plant a Row for the Hungry. Grow a few more plants or an extra row in your garden and donate the surplus produce to help feed the hungry in Chesterfield and around RVA.

The Chesterfield Master Gardeners are leading this campaign with collections on Mondays (through Oct. 31, excluding holidays) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Chesterfield Extension Office, 9501 Lori Rd.

Find Quality Child Care Through
New Social Services Program
The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services (DSS) has launched an initiative to help connect families and child care facilities with quality child care professionals in the community. 

Through this new effort, Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS hopes to assist residents by providing resources to identify quality child care facilities for their children, along with matching eligible families with financial assistance to assist with child care costs.
  
It also plans to work within its own network of child care providers in helping them identify candidates to hire at their respective facilities – including providing access to necessary training and resources, and helping people seeking to open their own child care facilities in Chesterfield or Colonial Heights.

Let’s work together to protect our environment!

The Keep Chesterfield Beautiful team is part of the county's Department of Community Enhancement. KCB is looking for volunteers for the Adopt-A-Spot Program. This program allows organizations, businesses and individuals to adopt smaller, more secure areas instead of busy roadways. A spot may be a park, school grounds, vacant lot, parking lot, walkway, median strip, street or entranceway. Chesterfield will provide garbage bags and reflective vests as needed.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight
This is Walter!

He’s a goofy but lovable Walker Hound who is 4 years old and weighs 51 lbs. He is much more handsome in person -- he was far too busy to take portraits!

Walter is super sweet, he wants to learn and luckily he’s motivated by treats! He likes to walk around outside and sniff everything. Walter loves everyone he meets -- including other dogs and didn't seem to mind the kitten he met at the shelter. Walter would make a great family pet!

Updates from Chesterfield County Public Schools
Throwing open the doors of Chesterfield's new elementary school!
County, school and community leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 25 followed by a building tour of the new Moseley Elementary School at 7100 Magnolia Green Parkway. Located in western Chesterfield in the Matoaca District, Moseley Elementary
encompasses 104,621 square feet with space for 900 students. Budgeted for $32.6
million as part of the capital improvement program of Chesterfield County Public Schools, Moseley Elementary was completed on time and under budget. It is the 40th elementary school of central Virginia’s largest school system. Read more at https://tinyurl.com/49vjvj8a

  • Start of the year: Aug. 22 is the first day of the 2022-23 school year for Chesterfield County schools that follow a traditional calendar (only Falling Creek and Bellwood elementaries follow a year-round calendar). But some students will not start until Aug. 23 or Aug. 24. Get all the details about school calendars at bit.ly/CCPScals so you know which date your child heads to class.
  • Free and reduced-price meals reminder: During the pandemic, the federal government issued a waiver allowing all children to eat for free at school. This meant the application for free or reduced-price meals was not required during this time. However, the federal waiver expired, and families must now complete an application to receive free or reduced-price meals during the 2022-23 school year. All others will pay for meals as they did before the pandemic. Complete the free or reduced price meal application for the 2022-23 school year here in English or here in Spanish. If you need a paper form, contact foodserviceinfo@ccpsnet.net. Note: Children who attend schools that qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision will receive free meals at school during the 2022-23 school year and do not need to complete a free or reduced price meal application. 
 
Immunizations and physicals for new school year
Families have several options for making sure children have the required immunizations and physicals for the 2022-23 school year. Here is helpful information:
  • The Chesterfield Health District will hold an appointment-only school vaccination clinic on Aug. 6. Call 804-751-4908 to make an appointment. These flyers in English and in Spanish offer details.
