Chesterfield After Hours Kicks Off
At River City Sportsplex!
Thanks to everyone who came out on Friday night to kick off the After Hours Concert Series at River City Sportsplex! We thank all of you who came out to see Aaron Lewis and the Stateliners and kick off this awesome series in Chesterfield!

Vera Sworn In As Chesterfield's General
Registrar and Director of Elections
Missy Vera was sworn in Monday morning as Chesterfield’s new general registrar and director of elections.

Vera had held the position on an acting basis since March, when Constance Hargrove resigned to become general registrar in Pima County, Ariz.

Following Hargrove’s departure, Chesterfield’s electoral board conducted a formal recruitment process before selecting Vera from a field of candidates.

Per the Code of Virginia, Vera will serve out the remainder of Hargrove’s four-year term, which ends in 2023, then she can be reappointed by the electoral board for another four years.
Board of Supervisors to Hold
Monthly Meeting on Wednesday
The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors will meet on Wednesday, July 27, in the Public Meeting Room at 10001 Iron Bridge Road, starting with a work session at 2 p.m. and then an evening session that begins at 6 p.m.
 
An online comment form is available for citizens to submit comments prior the meeting. Agenda highlights include a bond referendum update in the afternoon and the introduction of the county’s new general registrar as well as the new director of accounting in the evening.

The entire meeting, excluding a closed session, will be available for viewing on Comcast Channel 98 and Verizon Channel 28, and live streamed on chesterfield.gov and the county’s YouTube channel
Personal Property Tax Grace Period Ends Friday!
As a final reminder, the grace period for payment of 2022 Chesterfield County personal property taxes ends this Friday!

Chesterfield provided a grace period this year in response to challenging economic conditions, giving citizens who need it additional time to pay their personal property taxes.

While personal property tax bills were due by June 6, no penalty or interest will be charged if taxes are paid in full by the end of the grace period. This applies only to taxes on personal property, such as cars, passenger trucks, motorcycles, boats and trailers.

Wondering What's in Your Well Water? Cooperative Extension Can Help You Find Out!
Chesterfield is offering homeowners on wells an affordable opportunity to find out what’s in their water. Virginia Cooperative Extension - Chesterfield is offering confidential water testing and education through the Virginia Household Water Quality Program.

Water sample kits are available to residents of Chesterfield and surrounding counties at a cost of $65 per kit. Registration is required before Aug. 12 and space is limited. 

For residents on county water, Chesterfield Utilities operates a state-certified laboratory, publishes an annual water quality report and addresses any customer concerns free of charge.

Chesterfield Airport Accepting Donations for 
School Supplies Drive Through Aug. 12!

It’s almost back to school time! To make sure our students are prepared, the Richmond Executive-Chesterfield County Airport is hosting a community school supplies drive for Chesterfield County Public School students. Donations are being accepted at a several locations around the county through Friday, Aug. 12. 

Suggested items include composition books, pens, pencils, markers, folders, glue, crayons, scissors and index cards.

Chesterfield to Celebrate Centenarians
In the coming weeks Chesterfield’s Office of Aging & Disability Services and the Board of Supervisors is planning to recognize and celebrate the county’s centenarians. In order to do that, the county is inviting those turning 100 in 2022 to participate in the festivities by filling out an application.

Centenarians have distinctive experiences and achievements that Chesterfield wants to recognize. 

There are two ways for these community treasures to participate in this year’s recognition: Through either mailed certificates and recognition coins and/or acknowledgement at the Board of Supervisors meeting in September.

The 2022 application deadline for either recognition is Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, by 5 p.m.
Virtual Community Meeting Set for Aug. 8
The Chesterfield Planning Department will hold a virtual community meeting on Monday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. regarding proposed code amendments to Section 19.1 – 203 of the Zoning Ordinance (PDF) , which provides that the creation or extension of a public road into an Agricultural (A) zoning district is prohibited.

This ordinance amendment would allow for the creation or extension of a public road should it be approved by the Board of Supervisors as a conditional use or as part of a zoning application.

Participants in Library's Summer Learning Program Have Until Aug. 6 to Complete Goals!
Participants in Chesterfield County Public Library's 2022 Summer Learning Program, Oceans of Possibilities, have less than than two weeks left to complete all reading and activity goals. The deadline is Aug. 6 to be automatically entered into grand prize drawings!

The program has something for all ages, including adults! Each age group has activities designed to encourage exploring, reading, learning and creating. 

Many Chesterfield County Public Schools are using CCPL’s Summer Learning Program as their school’s Summer Learning Program. Check with your school to see if participating in this program counts towards your child’s school summer learning requirements.

Plant a Row for the Hungry!
Virginia Cooperative Extension - Chesterfield is challenging you to Plant a Row for the Hungry. Grow a few more plants or an extra row in your garden and donate the surplus produce to help feed the hungry in Chesterfield and around RVA.

The Chesterfield Master Gardeners are leading this campaign with collections on Mondays (through Oct. 31, excluding holidays) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Chesterfield Extension Office, 9501 Lori Rd.

Find Quality Child Care Through
New Social Services Program
The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services (DSS) has launched an initiative to help connect families and child care facilities with quality child care professionals in the community. 

Through this new effort, Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS hopes to assist residents by providing resources to identify quality child care facilities for their children, along with matching eligible families with financial assistance to assist with child care costs.
  
It also plans to work within its own network of child care providers in helping them identify candidates to hire at their respective facilities – including providing access to necessary training and resources, and helping people seeking to open their own child care facilities in Chesterfield or Colonial Heights.

Let’s work together to protect our environment!

The Keep Chesterfield Beautiful team is part of the county's Department of Community Enhancement. KCB is looking for volunteers for the Adopt-A-Spot Program. This program allows organizations, businesses and individuals to adopt smaller, more secure areas instead of busy roadways. A spot may be a park, school grounds, vacant lot, parking lot, walkway, median strip, street or entranceway. Chesterfield will provide garbage bags and reflective vests as needed.

Meet Laya Marie!

Laya Marie is a lovable girl with a fun, bouncy, and energetic personality! She needs to be taught her basic commands as well as needing to be potty-trained.

Laya Marie is playful and she loves toys. Due to her energy level, she would prefer a home in which the family is active. She’d also enjoy a yard to run around in and/or go on walks. She loves other dogs and wants to play! She enjoys wrestling with them. Laya Marie is a 6 month old Pit bull mix. She is not a fan of cats so she needs a home with no kitty friends.

She currently weighs 35 pounds but you can anticipate her reaching 50 pounds when she's fully grown.

Summer meal options increase for children
1-18 years old
With the passage of the federal Keep Kids Fed Act, Chesterfield County schools are expanding summer meal options for children who are 1-18 years old:
  • Children no longer have to eat breakfasts and lunches on site.
  • Parents or guardians can pick up meals on behalf of their children.
  • Curbside pickup of meal bundles is returning for students who are not attending in-person summer school. Meals will be available for pickup 3:30-4:30 p.m. on July 26 (10 days of meals) and Aug. 9 (nine days of meals) at these sites: Ettrick Elementary, Hopkins Elementary, Salem Church Elementary, Tomahawk Creek Middle, Thomas Dale High, Manchester High and Monacan High.


  • At summer school sites, breakfast and lunch will be available Monday through Thursday through July 21, unless otherwise specified in the list below. 
  • Texting “food” or “comida” to 304-304 provides information about nearby meal sites.
  • Additionally, the Chesterfield Food Bank distributes food at cfboc.org/getfood.

First day for year-round schools

July 18 was the first day of the new school year for Bellwood and Falling Creek elementaries, Chesterfield County's two year-round schools. Children entering kindergarten this fall or older students who are new to Chesterfield County should register as soon as possible with Chesterfield County Public Schools. School registration details are easy to find at bit.ly/CCPSreg. That site includes lots of helpful links, including a find-my-school widget, school supply lists and transportation details.

It’s summer break now, but back-to-school preparations are underway. Aug. 22 is the first day of the 2022-23 school year for most schools in Chesterfield County.
