If my itchy nose and watering eyes are any indication, Spring has arrived. All around me I feel the pace of life quickening, whether it be the dancing daffodils and tulips or the thumping bass of music blaring out of open car windows as they pass by. Here at the Loudoun Arts Council, we've got TONS of stuff going on that I want to tell you about.
First, we've got another Arts RoundUp scheduled for Saturday, May 21st from 10-12am for our Loudoun Arts Organizations. This time, we are going to continue the conversation about another performing arts center in Loudoun County. There have been some recent developments and we really need some input from every/any organization that might make use of a performing arts center. We're still nailing down the details of where the event will be held, but we're aiming for Sterling. If you'd like to come, please send me an email at email@example.com and I'll send all the details.
Second, we've got our first ever Dance Party Fundraiser coming up on Thursday, June 2 from 7:30 - 11:00pm. It's going to be upstairs at the Lightfoot Restaurant (Ingrid's also going to chef up awesome snacks) and we've got DJ Rhythmix and his conga drums spinning for us. We've got some very cool Silent Auction items lined up and more coming in. If you're interested in attending, I urge you to hurry and reserve your tickets for space is truly limited to fire codes. I don't wanna say it's going to be a LOT of fun, but I'm taking Friday off. ;)
Third, the 6th Annual Western Loudoun Artist Studio Tour (WLAST) is coming up June 11-12. For those of you who don't know about it, WLAST is a self-guided driving tour - you can visit the studios of over 50 talented artists as you wind through the scenic countryside and historic villages of western Loudoun County. Around mid-May the tour booklet, complete with map and artist bios should be available both online and around town. If you can't find one, I'll have some here at the Loudoun Arts Council office so just stop by and pick one up! They'll also be available for sure at the other partner organizations, Round Hill Arts Center, ArtSquare and Franklin Park Arts Center. And it's completely FREE!
So as you see, there's all kinds of fun stuff happening! I hope to see you for any of these events!
Now onto Happenings! Happenings! is sent out mid-month, each month, but is updated weekly on our website, so please go there for the most current listings and long-term Happenings! calendars.
P.S. Oh, and Gale Waldron at ArtSquare asked me to let all LAC members know that the family of Virginia Treviranus has made a selection of her paintings available for purchase. The paintings are in Virginia's studio space at ArtSquare and will available through the end of May.

The Hidden Order: An Inside Look at Great Paintings with Maggie SinerHave you ever wondered what makes a painting great? Join artist Maggie Siner on a journey through the elements, structure and inside workings of great paintings from local and world museums. In a thought-provoking slide and lecture series, Siner will approach each painting not as a development in art history but individually, asking how each painting expresses its meaning, how it is 'put together' in terms of shape, color, materials and images, and how these are the key to its meaning and greatness. This insightful introduction to the language of painting is for everyone interested in a deeper understanding of art. Attend one session or all three.
