Happenings @ St. David's

We read this week the parable of the Good Samaritan, a familiar passage to most of us. Who are the injured in our world and in our immediate community? How is God calling you (calling us) to tend to those who most need our help? As a community, we are called to reach out with Christ’s love to those who need that love so desperately.

We hope your week is full of Christ’s love and, until next week, I am

Faithfully yours,

Fr. Will
Messy Church - 7/19
Join us on Friday, 7/19 from 6-7:30 pm for Messy Church. Messy Church is intergenerational and explores a biblical theme through hands-on creative experiences for all ages. We gather in a relaxed atmosphere and reconnect with one another. The theme is Bible Seasides and the Beach. A short interactive celebration of story, song, and prayer follows the activity time. The worship experience culminates in a meal together.

Backpack Buddies

About 1 in 4 school children in Loudoun County are uncertain where their next meal will come from. Over the last several years St. David’s has worked with Discovery Elementary and Cedar Lane Elementary in Ashburn to address this problem. Please continue to donate food throughout the summer for the upcoming school year. We provide 11 items per week and we are always taking donations for cans of chicken noodle soup, tuna, juice boxes, granola bars, oatmeal packets, mac and cheese boxes, Ramen noodles and individual cartons of milk. Last year we packed 90 bags a week and packed over 3000 bags for the school year. Hunger does not end on the weekend.

Women in the Word Summer Series
Come join us on 7/22 at 9:30 am in the education room to discuss Richard Rohr's Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life, Available on Amazon.
July 22 finds us looking at a fresh way of thinking about spirituality that grows throughout life. In Falling Upward , Fr. Richard Rohr seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show them that those who have fallen, failed, or "gone down" are the only ones who understand "up." Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old, dealing with health issues, and letting go of life, but the whole thesis of this book is exactly the opposite. What looks like falling down can largely be experienced as "falling upward." In fact, it is not a loss but somehow actually a gain, as we have all seen with elders who have come to their fullness.  Come and together we will discuss how the second half of life can and should be full of spiritual richness and explore a new view of how spiritual growth happens. Contact us for more information.
