Happenings @ St. David's

We serve a God of surprises.

This past Sunday we celebrated Christ as King, the end of our liturgical year. One would think our gospel for this day would be Jesus resurrected in the garden, or ascending into heaven.

Instead, we found Jesus on the cross, forgiving those who put him to death, and offering forgiveness and eternal life as he promised to 're-member' the thief who hung beside him.

This is our surprising God - showing strength through humility, forgiveness in the face of injustice, courage in suffering, love that is stronger than death, and the promise of life everlasting to all. Not fair, not reciprocal, but surprising grace and pure gift.

Next week we begin a new church year with the season of Advent.
Blessings as we wait together for our surprising God.

Nominations are now open for St. David's Vestry
As you consider ways that you are "Called to Serve", please consider becoming part of our Vestry. The vestry is the parish council of lay persons, elected by other active members of the parish, who, with the rector, have responsibility for the care and control of church property and the transaction of business of the congregation. At St. David's, the vestry is also a group that helps the rector, other clergy, staff, and ministries to discern and carry out the vision of where God is calling us as a congregation. There is business to which we must attend, but there is also time for sharing and growing in faith and love.

If you would like to be considered or for more information, contact: Ken Courter at kcourter@sdlife.org or Buz Price at bprice@sdlife.org .

Don't Get Phished!
Youth Ministry
In recent months, many churches have reported instances of “phishing,” where parishioners received emails that claim to be from their priest asking for money in the form of gift cards, donations or wire transfers. Such emails are NOT the way that clergy request support from parishioners. Sometimes, the email address these messages come from is a clue, but sometimes it is hard to tell. When in doubt, call the church office to get the facts before sending money in any form. If there is a request to click on a link, do not do so!
