Happenings @ St. David's

Water is important everywhere but is especially precious in dry, hot climates such as the Middle East. So when Jeremiah compares the peoples' plight to a dry, cracked cistern that can hold no water, he is describing a dire situation. The people have stopped relying on God for sustenance and strength, and have tried to quench their own thirst, which never ends well.
How often we, too, slip into thinking that we don't need God, or church or prayer. Or we know we need God and yet don't ask or act to access that which gives us life. How quickly we become parched and dry, trying to fill our own cisterns.

We need the living water which only God provides. What a blessing to know that the living water, from our font, from the Lord's table, from scripture, from Jesus is always there for us, abundant and clear, to refresh and renew. We need only remember, and turn and drink.

As the busy fall time begins, remember to include God time, church time, service and rest time into your schedule to stay connected to the life-giving, living water.

Visitors = New Members!
As we know, St. David’s Church and School is a welcoming environment for area residents regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We greet and hand out welcome bags to people willing to raise their hand and be recognized as a visitor. But, our welcoming doesn’t end there. In fact, it’s just the beginning. We offer newcomer orientation luncheons for visitors who want to get to know us better; followed by Coffee CONNECTs, graciously hosted by Donna and Philip Martin in their home, for an even deeper dive into the life of St. David’s.

For more information about Welcome/CONNECT contact Donna Martin at welcome@sdlife.org .

Food for the Soul Potluck Picnic
Sunday, September 29, 12:30 pm
Come and Learn!! It is often said that one key to understanding people is to understand their food - the joy they find in sharing meals with family, friends and guests.
Food for the Soul will bring us together to better understand the term called “Soul Food.” Everyone has some idea of what soul food is, but do you know where these dishes originated? How they came to be known as “soul food?” Are you aware why/how African Americans have been both celebrated and persecuted based on these foods?
Various soul food dishes originated among slave communities and today they are celebrated dishes shared at elaborate Sunday dinners, family reunions, and many have become everyday staples around African American dinner tables.
The Food for the Soul potluck picnic will be an “all hands on deck” meal together made up entirely of soul food dishes that have been carefully selected based on historical value. You are invited to bring your favorite recipe of the following foods. Don’t have a recipe? No Problem! The BBC team has a collection of recipes to try. Pick up one at their table in the Narthex.
Sign up in the Narthex after services on Sunday to bring a dish, supply, or help out with the event.
