We plan a full day of activities for serious runners, casual walkers, parents or caregivers pushing strollers, adults, and children alike. Come for The Run and stay for the fun: live bands, kids’ zone, school choirs, food, refreshing drinks, and more to celebrate Excellence in Education in the San Ramon Valley USD!
For a very limited time, we have rolled back prices of this community tradition to $25 for the 5K, Friendship Run, and Mini Run, and $35 for the 10K. These registration prices are almost as low as they were in the 90s. Register by October 31st to secure your spot and get your commemorative t-shirt.
Too far ahead to plan? Not sure if you will be in town? No worries - Register anyway! Every registration helps support this special community event. News from SRVUSD
Once again, SRVUSD has risen to the top, and this time it’s not only in the state of California. On September 16th, the U.S. Department of Education announced that 297 schools nation-wide were selected as Blue Ribbon Schools, which included 29 schools in California. SRVUSD had four in the list - Coyote Creek, Gale Ranch, Iron Horse and Windemere Ranch - more than any other single public school district in the nation! Out of more than 98,550 public schools in the U.S. and more than 10,000 public schools in the state of California, this is an incredible honor for our District. Each of our four schools were recognized in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category, and we are incredibly proud of the school leaders listed below, as well as all of the school staff, students and parents/caregivers who work to make these schools what they are:
Coyote Creek Elementary - Principal William Alpert
Gale Ranch Middle - Principal Jenny Torres
Iron Horse Middle - Principal Marissa Norris; Former Principal Demetrius Ball
Windemere Ranch Middle - Principal Sharon Baltazar; Former Principal Dave Bolin
In SRVUSD, we are already known for offering exceptional education programs and services for students. These four schools being recognized as national leaders in excellent public education exemplifies everything we do in SRVUSD to ensure our students are successful. You have probably already heard about our Access to Excellence (a2e) initiative initiative that was launched in February, 2022. The tagline is “Reimagining Success”, and our goal is to connect our entire community to our Strategic Directions and goals for all students. Please watch and share our new a2e video, featuring SRVUSD students, staff, parents/caregivers and community members! Whether you have a student still attending school in the District or not, a2e is a way for our community to come together and prioritize academic excellence, broaden the definition of success, and be committed to the best possible environments for deep learning and innovation where students thrive and succeed because they are safe, included, accepted and supported.
The success of our District and the SRVEF requires support from everyone in our community. I would like to invite all of you to connect with the District and the Foundation, celebrate what our schools mean to all of us, and help us create our future. If you no longer have students in the district and want to ensure you stay connected, please sign up to receive our emails.
Congratulations again to our four National Blue Ribbon schools!
Take Care,
Dr. John Malloy
SRVUSD Superintendent

California Art and Music K-12 Education Funding Initiative*
Proposition 28 - “The Arts and Music in Schools – Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act”
Prop. 28 would require the state to provide funding to increase arts instruction and programs in schools. Funding is allocated based on the enrollment of the prior year for PreK-12 public school students, with 70 percent distributed to schools based on their share of statewide enrollment and 30 percent based on each school’s share of low-income students statewide. The majority of the funding is to be used to hire new staff (80 percent) and for arts education programs. The initiative would also require schools to publish reports showing how the money was used to directly benefit students.
See the California State PTA Referendum Study Report here. Read our September PTA Connects Blog Post to learn how local PTAs can actively advocate for the passage of Prop. 28.

A Note from Gary Alpert,
President of SRVEF Board of Directors

Dear Friends of the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation,
The Run for Education
The 39th Run for Education held the weekend of October 8 & 9 was an amazing success. After two years of virtual Runs, we were thrilled to see the community come out to support education in such a fun, healthy way.
Thank you to our schools, sponsors, volunteers, Expo exhibitors, runners, and the entire SRVEF board. Special kudos to the SRVEF Staff – Karen Robman, Alicia Gee, Donna Browne, and Jeanne Won– all under the leadership of Vanessa Berastain, our Executive Director. There isn’t a group of harder working individuals, and we all thank them for devoting the majority of the last year to putting on the event.
But.. the best is yet to come. We have already opened registration for our 40th Run for Education. Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 8, 2023. Register now at an amazingly low price of $25 for the 5K, Mini Run, or Friendship Run and $35 for the 10K. This price won’t last long (we can’t afford it), so register now. Pricing goes up on November 1. Register here
Teacher Grants
One of the ways we support our educators is through our teacher grant program. We kicked off this year’s grant program on October 1 and will begin reviewing grants by November 1. Teachers are encouraged to apply for grants via our partner, DonorsChoose. DonorsChoose is a non-profit organization that connects public school educators in need of classroom materials with donors throughout the country who want to help.
In the past we have funded tens of thousands of dollars in grants, making a difference in hundreds of classrooms, and impacting the learning of thousands of our students.
You can help too, visit DonorsChoose.org and search for grants that are of special interest to you. You can search by subject, school, teacher, or school district.
SRVEF Communications Update
We are very excited to announce the launch of our new website - use the same name you are used to: www.SRVEF.org. The design is fresh and updated, better reflecting our Foundation goals. We’ve also optimized our website to be mobile friendly, considering how most people look at websites these days.
We hope it will make it easier to learn more about the Foundation and the important role it plays in supporting the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. It also has a new Donation page, allowing donors to select one-time or ongoing donations.
SRVEF invites visitors to explore the new website. Please share your feedback at info@srvef.org.
Our new website is just part of our enhanced communications strategy. You may have noticed we have significantly enhanced our social media presence. You will find us communicating via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn significantly more often than in the past.
Our refreshed website and enhanced social media presence are part of our longer term strategy to reach deeper into the community to promote both the quality of our schools and the important role SRVEF plays in protecting and improving the quality of public education. Look for more on this topic in 2023.
Have any ideas? Please share them by contacting us at info@SRVEF.org
With gratitude,
Gary Alpert
