All Saints Day
November 1, 2026

Paraments color: WHITE
Scripture Readings for November 1, 2026
All Saints celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who are the body of Christ. As November heralds the dying of the landscape in many northern regions, the readings and liturgy call us to remember all who have died in Christ and whose baptism is complete. At the Lord’s table we gather with the faithful of every time and place, trusting that the promises of God will be fulfilled and that all tears will be wiped away in the new Jerusalem.
Revelation 7:9-17; Psalm 34:1-10, 22; 1 John 3:1-3; Matthew 5:1-12

Grace and peace be to you!
Several years ago, a woman named Arlene Campbell who was originally from New York moved to Texas to be closer to her son John. She eventually moved to Round Rock and started coming to Hutto Lutheran Church. One Sunday, she invited people to come to her house in Round Rock and learn how to tie quilts. The group started out small and grew and grew and grew and began to call themselves, “the Knot Perfect Quilters.” Eventually they began meeting in the 502 ministry center.
The quilts are part of a program through Lutheran World Relief and are called “mission quilts.” Since the program began in 1945 over 28 million quilts have been made through LWR and sent around the world.
The quilts are sent to people in dire need, people who have lost their homes, or their jobs or family. The quilts are not always used to keep warm. Sometimes they are used for a tent, for a floor covering, to gather and carry supplies, or to wrap their babies in. They are made very sturdy so they can last, with a top, a middle and a backing. The quilts themselves embody the peace of home and are a reminder of God’s love and grace in the midst of the unknown.
A few years ago there was an earthquake in Haiti and many buildings were not left standing. The Knot perfect quilters were able to send 55 quilts to children in an orphanage (if you ever want to see pictures there is a book in our Narthex).
This Sunday, our congregation will bless quilts made by the Knot Perfect Quilters as they are sent on their way to those in need. Many thanks to the HLC quilters for your many hours of quilting and to members for donating supplies and funds to this ministry.
As can be seen in their name, the quilters are always open to newcomers and anyone who wants to learn more about this ministry, even if they are “knot perfect.” What a great reminder of our Lutheran Theology that reminds us that we are all 100% saint and 100% sinner, that though we are not perfect, God can use our hands to do some incredible things!
This Sunday, November 1st, the church will gather and celebrate All Saints Sunday. You are invited to light candles during worship for those who have died.
All Saints' Day celebration has a long history in the worship life of the Christian Church. It began as a commemoration of the martyrs who had died for the faith, and it has since become a day when we honor and remember those who have died and are in heaven as well as the faithful saints of the present. Martin Luther held that all Christians are simultaneously sinner and saint--a sinner because of our rebellious nature, but a saint because of salvation in Jesus.
In Sweden in the year 731 AD, 1 November was designated a day of remembrance for saints of the church who had no days of their own. In recent years, people in Sweden began putting lighted candles on the graves of the departed on All Saints’ Day. The countless points of light from the candles and lanterns placed on graves form beautiful patterns in the snow. People also lay flowers and wreaths on graves.
This Sunday night you are invited to gather at the historic Hutto Lutheran Cemetery (550 county Road 135) at 5:30pm. Like those first Swedish immigrants to Hutto we will be gathering around a circle of light, sharing stories and placing candles on the graves to give thanks for the saints.
Hope to see you this Sunday! Giving thanks for you living saints too.
God’s peace,
Pastor Amanda

Glynda Vanecek's Retirement
After more than 20 years of faithfully filling the sanctuary of Hutto Lutheran Church with beautiful music, our organist, Glynda Vanaček, is retiring. Week after week, Glynda’s playing has led our praise, lifted our spirits, and enriched our worship services in ways words can hardly express.
As we give thanks for her two decades of dedicated service, leadership, and heart, we invite everyone to stop by the table in the Narthex to sign a thank-you card for Glynda. Please take a moment to share a fond memory or a word of gratitude to bless her in this next season!
