Paraments color: Green

Scripture Readings for September 29, 2024

Someone who isn’t part of Jesus’ own circle is casting out demons in Jesus’ name, and the disciples want him stopped. They appeal to Jesus, as Joshua did to Moses about the elders who prophesied without official authorization. Like Moses, Jesus refuses to see this as a threat. Jesus welcomes good being done in his name, even when it is not under his control. The circle we form around Jesus’ word must be able to value good being done in ways we wouldn’t do it, by people we can’t keep tabs on.

Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29; Psalm 19:7-14; James 5:13-20; Mark 9:38-50

From the Pastor's Desk

Grace and peace to you!

What an interesting week this has been so far! Sunday at 11:15 while we were in the midst of worship and monday afternoon someone sent out texts in my name asking for funds from members to help people in need. My heart is so saddened to imagine the extra stress this might have caused any of you! I know for me such breaches of security can leave me feeling violated and weighed down with the brokenness of humanity.

A couple of notes. 1) I will NEVER ask you to send funds for any ministry cause by email or text or otherwise. 2) I will do my best to send a church "flocknote" out as soon as possible by text/email to alert you as soon as I know if anyone is attempting to contact you in my name. Flocknotes are not sent often and mostly in time sensitive situations like this one. If you have not been receiving flocknotes and would like to, please email office@huttolutheranchurch.org with your email address or phone number (for texts) to be added.

At the same time, just as Joseph thanked God for working through the sin of his brothers, I choose to give thanks for God working through this. I saw your concern for each other as well as your generous hearts in the fact that you are willing to have your days interrupted and do want to be available to help others in need.

So grateful for you!

God’s peace,

Pastor Amanda
