Day of Pentecost
June 8, 2025
| |
Paraments color: RED
Scripture Readings for June 8, 2025
On Pentecost, we celebrate that we have been given an Advocate to accompany us. Poured out in wind and fire, water, wine, and bread, the Holy Spirit abides in and among us. We give thanks that God speaks to each of us, no matter our origins, language, or life path. Filled with the Spirit of truth, we go out from worship to proclaim the saving power of Christ’s love and the freedom of God’s grace with all the world.
Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:24-35b; Romans 8:14-17, John 14:8-17 [25-27]

From the Pastor's Desk
Grace and peace to you,
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the church. We wear red to remember the holy spirit that bore the church into being and that even now calls, gathers and enlightens the whole Christian church on earth. A reflection for you on Pentecost:
Pentecost
There is a candle near the altar
that glows without rest.
Its flame dances in the hurricane,
safe and silent while we sleep.
Or is it?
This light is bold enough,
with or without us, to start a fire
where there was only dust and fear.
It flickers now, casting a glow
in the dim stillness of what we build,
the places we hide and wait for certain
signs of what will still be.
Perhaps this fire is waiting
on a wind so we can see
like our ancestors
a burning bush, a pillar of fire,
a burnt offering ablaze
with life that speaks.
Breathe deeply, church.
You are the wind
you are waiting for,
and the time has come
to kindle and flare
like tongues dancing,
like wax that drips without reserve,
melting and molding for the luminous
God's peace,
Pastor Amanda

"Those who sleep under a quilt, sleep under a blanket of love."
The HLC Knot Perfect Quilters is a small group that meets weekly to make quilts.
On the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays they meet at 3:00 in the 502 ministry center. They use the quilt frame room to tie finished tops and the large room to match squares and design layouts to be sewn into tops. These quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief to be distributed throughout the world where there is great need in times of hardship and disaster. All are welcome. Contact Barbara Sylvester. Email: bnsylvester@twc.com Cell: 903-819-4004.
Can you tie a knot? Volunteers wanted to tie knots to tie the three layers of quilts together. No sewing experience necessary! Join the quilters on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 3pm in the 502MC. Thank you for considering this opportunity!

Capturing Hutto Lutheran Stories
This June, Hutto Lutheran Church will be celebrating 132 years of sharing the love of God in Hutto. In celebration of all that God has done in us and through us, we are collecting stories about Hutto Lutheran Church.
Do you have stories you would be willing to share? Or do you know someone who is still living that may have stories to share that you are willing to interview to capture their stories?
We have created an email address to use for submitting these stories. Email your written or video stories to HLCStories@huttolutheranchurch.org. Our goal is to collect stories by Sunday, June 22nd in celebration of HLC's anniversary, though the opportunity will be available after that date as well.
You may be thinking, “I don’t have a story important enough to share.” Our story is made up of many many small stories that together add up to speak about God’s work amongst us. Click on the image for some questions to help stimulate stories and are meant to be a starting place for conversation.
For questions you can contact Jeff Svoboda, 512-461-4041.

Adult Study: The Greatest Story
Meets Sundays at 9:00am in the 502
Group conscience has determined that we should study each book of the Bible book by book, verse by verse, by reading out loud to each other and then discussing how the people of the time may have understood it and how we understand it and how that applies to us today. We cover one to two chapters each week.
Please join us and share your understanding and wisdom. Remember there is no judgement of anybody’s understanding. Come and be a disciple of Jesus.
