Second Sunday of Easter
April 12, 2026

Paraments color: WHITE
Scripture Readings for April 12, 2026
In today’s gospel the risen Christ appears to the disciples and offers them the gift of peace. Even amid doubts and questions, we experience the resurrection in our Sunday gathering around word and meal, and in our everyday lives. Throughout the coming Sundays of Easter the first two readings will be from the Acts of the Apostles and the first letter of Peter. Even as the early Christians proclaimed the resurrection, we rejoice in the new birth and living hope we receive in baptism.
Acts 2:14a, 22-32; Psalm 16; 1 Peter 1:3-9; John 20:19-31

Grace and peace to you,
So much of our worship together is reverent. There is something about the holiness of the sanctuary space that invites us into the call from Psalm 46: Be still and know that I am God.
And yet there is more to our experience of humanity than these moments of quiet. If we are truly created in the image of God, does God not also have a sense of humor and know the joy of laughter?
Holy Humor Sunday is a tradition that goes way back. The early Greek Christians started this Easter custom as a way of celebrating Christ’s resurrection. The Bible tells us “for every-thing there is a season… a time to weep and a time to laugh.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4) Easter is a time of joy when we can even laugh in the face of death, because of Jesus’s victory over death. History tells us that churches in 15th century Bavaria celebrated the Sunday after Easter as Risus Paschalis (“God’s Joke” or “the Easter Laugh”). Priests would tell jokes and funny stories to highlight the joy of the resurrection. Following worship churchgoers and priests would play practical jokes on each other, drench each other with water, tell more jokes, sing and dance. The celebration of Risus Paschalis was officially outlawed by Pope Clement X (also known as Pope Partypooper) in the 17th century. There wasn’t a theological problem with the tradition, it seems that revilers were just having a little too much fun. We hope today’s worship is a fun and reverent celebration of Easter. God raised Jesus from the dead, this is a cause to celebrate and laugh. Holy Humor Sunday services not only give Christians an opportunity for ongoing celebrations of the greatest miracle in human history - Jesus' resurrection - it also gives each of us an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for our own smaller resurrections in this world and this life.
Looking forward to trying something new with you this Sunday and sharing together in the joy of the resurrection!
God’s peace,
Pastor Amanda

New Sound System April 12th
Thanks to a generous donor our church will have a new sound system starting April 12th that will hopefully resolve recent sound issues. The new sound system will have capacity to channel sound directly through hearing aids.
Connecting Your Auracast-Enabled Hearing Aids
Our church now features Auracast™ broadcast audio, a new standard in assistive listening that delivers crystal-clear sound directly from our microphones to your hearing aids. This technology eliminates background noise and room echo, making every word easy to follow.
How to Connect
To tune into the service, follow these simple steps using your smartphone:
-
Open Your App: Launch the companion app provided by your hearing aid manufacturer (e.g., ReSound, Oticon, Starkey, etc.).
-
Scan for Broadcasts: Navigate to the "Auracast" or "Broadcast Audio" section within the app and select the option to search for nearby broadcasts.
-
Select the Channel: Look for the broadcast named BA210 in the list of available networks.
-
Listen In: Once selected, your hearing aids will automatically begin streaming the high-quality audio from our sound system.
Note: Because this uses the latest Bluetooth technology, you can adjust your personal volume through your app without affecting anyone else’s experience. If you have trouble finding the BA210 signal, please contact TJ Johnson 512-635-7966

Southwestern Texas Synod Assembly Offering to the Tiemann Endowment Fund for Leadership Development
The offering for the synod assembly will go toward the Tiemann Endowment Fund for Leadership Development. This fund was successfully established to support the development of congregational lay leaders, pastors, and deacons serving under Letter of Call. An annual distribution of about $6,000 has been granted to equip lay leaders, pastors, and deacons in building and strengthening our congregations and ministries! As this year's assembly offering, we hope to grow the endowment exponentially and further equip leaders across our synod. Synod assembly will take place May 1-2.
