Scripture Readings for April 13, 2025
Today we follow Christ from triumphal entry to the cross, each waypoint of the journey marked by Jesus’ compassion for those who would betray, mock, accuse, or do violence to him. Though persecuted and beaten, Jesus the Son of God is not disgraced; instead, he asks forgiveness for those who put him to death. We have walked the Lenten pathway these forty days, each of us invited through baptism to “let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” We enter this holy week accompanying Jesus to the cross with both grief and thanksgiving in our hearts, trusting in God’s redeeming love.
Luke 19:28-40; Isaiah 50:4-9a; 31:9-16; Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 22:14—23:56

From the Pastor's Desk
Grace and peace to you!
If you would have told me at New years all that HLC would accomplish in a few short months I couldn’t imagine it would be possible.
In January of this year our HLC Stewardship and Finance team met with Signe Fredrickson, the regional gift planner with the Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest. She was there to share with us options for planning for Hutto Lutheran’s future. She told us that they had helped HLC establish our cemetery endowment years ago and we celebrated how much it has grown. She mentioned options for saving for the future that we hadn’t heard of including a managed asset fund where our congregation could still have access to funds.
Our team reflected together on the “why” of such a fund. We shared stories of sadness of churches that have closed. And yet in the midst of those stories there were stories of hope for HLC – how we dreamed that this congregation could be here long after its current members were gone, continuing to share the love of God with the world.
And so the question arose, why not? Why not try? Why not create a place where people could give to the future of HLC and to the mission of God in this place decades from now?
There were so many unanswered questions: How would we begin? When would we begin? An unexpected gift of generosity was given, and a few weeks later you all have matched that gift with your own generosity. Last Wednesday the initial goal of $12,000 was met for our Vision Fund. Today, the total given is over $13,000 and continues to grow.
Thank you to all of you for your generosity. You are the reason that ministry continues to happen this year, and because of you the seed of hope for ministry in the future has been planted in rich soil.
Thank you also for your welcome of Signe last Sunday. She will be back later this year to share more information about legacy giving for those who are interested in finding out more. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest, here is a link to their website, https://www.lfsw.org/ (if you look close enough at the video at the bottom of their website you might see a familiar face). Signe’s contact information is sfrederickson@lfsw.org or 210-618-7067.
Giving thanks today for all that God has done in you!
God’s peace,
Pastor Amanda
