Greetings!

Welcome to our latest newsletter. In this issue, we have articles on parenting and a supportive diet for cancer patients. We also introduce some new workshops such as Raindrop Therapy and Solution Focused Coaching. In our lead up to Tim's August workshops on The Enneagram and The Work by Byron Katie, Siewfan will facilitate another DeepDive Enneagram workshop. Siewfan will introduce and familiarize people with this concept so that participants can work even deeper with Tim.

Are you familiar with the healing powers of essential oils? Claudia's Raindrop Therapy Workshop early June not only shows us how to use therapeutic-grade oils but also the wonderful benefits gained from layering different oils. Not only do you get to practice during the workshop, you get to receive!

Are you looking for a different way to resolve the same problems? Come try Solution Focused Coaching with NLP Coach Simon Wong.

Tuesday meditation and Friday kundalini yoga will continue and Antoinette will host another singing bowl meditation.

Editor's Note

The Zulu greeting "Sawubona" means "I see you".

I see you in your entirety - who you are, your humanity, your dignity, your dreams...

People have a deep innate need to connect, to be recognized. Someone's existence is only manifest in your reality when you see them. When you acknowledge and accept them. And before you can love someone else, you must know and love your own Self.

Until we can answer "Ngikhona" or "I am here" when we greet our Self, we do not truly know ourselves. We are not completely revealed. Still hidden under the layers of stories we have created, heavy with distortions. Strip away the drama, the costumes, the masks. Stand naked - vibrant and divine.

Singing Bowl Meditation
with Antoinette Biehlmeier

Singing Bowl Meditation

Singing bowls have been used in Asia for thousands of years for healing.

The sound of each singing bowl is unique, multiple harmonic overtones that move out into space as physical vibrations - energy fields that re-tune the body. The sound is wonderfully complex and deeply healing.

The singing bowls can be struck on the side with a padded mallet for pulsating tones or a singing sound can be produced by moving the mallet around the rim of the bowl. The combination of the different sounds produces a toning symphony.

Studies show that a measurable wave pattern produced by singing bowls corresponds to alpha or theta waves produced by the brain. These are brainwaves produced when we are deeply relaxed. In this state, our body is able to heal more effectively, both non-physically and physically.

Antoinette will lead the singing bowl meditation by playing a set of 7-metal Tibetan singing bowls. Come down for a relaxing evening.

The Enneagram and The Work of Byron Katie
The Map and the Way of Awakening to Our True Nature
with Tim McLean

The Work by Byron Katie
Discover the peace, freedom and creativity that is our true nature with the profound map of human consciousness, the Enneagram and the simple and powerful method of inquiry and awakening, The Work of Byron Katie.

The Riso/Hudson Enneagram is a map of humanEnneagram Japan consciousness that describes with striking clarity how our mental fixations and unquestioned thoughts drive emotional reactions and body tensions that keep us trapped in our stories and patterns of the past. The Enneagram also describes integration and awakening to the essential qualities that shine and manifest when we become more present and free from our stories and fixations.

Byron Katie explains The Work as "a way of identifying and questioning the thoughts that cause all the fear, violence, depression, frustration and suffering in the world. Experience the happiness of undoing these thoughts through The Work, and allow your mind to return to its true, awakened, peaceful, creative nature".

The map of the Enneagram is a tremendous aid for the inquiry of The Work. It helps us identify and understand the stressful patterns of our personality type as well as the essential qualities that emerge when we become more present. And the inquiry of The Work by Byron Katie gives us real internal recognition and awakening to the reality of our own consciousness that the map of the Enneagram describes so well.

The Enneagram tells us "why" we are the way we are. The Work actually shows us "how" to work directly with our personality's stressful thoughts and limiting stories and awaken to our true nature.

Moving Resonance & Oneness Flow
Full Body Awakening with Syv Bruzeau

Moving Resonance is based on the sound technique called Continuum coupled with movements. This meditative method is a very easy yet powerful tool to increase mobility and bring physical or emotional healing.

Both a healing and creative process, Oneness Flow is a personal journey through the rhythm of your body and the Universe. It is a great way to connect with yourself, with others and with the surroundings as a oneness flow through your own and unique dance.

By letting go of your ego and daily consciousness, your body can find a new freedom in expression and in the way you perceive yourself. Oneness Flow takes you to a place where everything is possible again and where there is no judgment of right or wrong, where your body is not bound by any form anymore.

What you can expect from this movement form:
-discover the freedom of expressing yourself by exploring the space of your body, and the space outside of your body
-develop your awareness, feel connected to yourself and the others
-use movements to reach physical and mental tensions and to release them
-feel energized
-reach and express your emotions
-a sense of playfulness and joy

Oneness Flow and Moving Resonance require no dance experience

Time: 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm

Parenting: Asking the Right Questions
by Faya Alhabshi

Young Child

"Dre, pick up your jacket!"

This famous caption from the movie The Karate Kid is an example of one of the most common parental concerns when it comes to disciplining children. The child either won't listen, or he needs to be reminded from time to time. Often, the more you nag, the more likely they will not do it.

When I took up a parenting course, I was given a long list of reading on parenting theories. I found that parenting covers methods of caring, dealing, handling, managing, education, helping and even programming children. It is a self-help set of rules that parents around the world would search for and apply in order to do all they think they need to do as parents and to ensure children's needs are met.

The world of developmental psychology went further, from parenting theories to parenting styles (Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive and Uninvolved), and their impact. Authoritative parenting appeared to give the best impact: happy, capable and successful children.

So what do I do if I possess parenting types other than the authoritative style?

Mudra

Do you find yourself holding your thumb, rubbing the knuckle? Many people do this, when they are worried. It's a natural gesture.

The hand is actually an amazing tool for healing. Each finger and the thumb is related to an emotion and an organ-meridian. Simply holding the fingers for just a few minutes each day can help regenerate all our 144,000 energy functions.

The thumb, for example, is related to the attitude of worry and the stomach-spleen energy. It not only harmonizes this emotion but helps with insomnia, digestion and stress.

Using the hands as a tool can be holding a single finger or a combination. Mudras come in many different finger arrangements to tap into our innate healing abilities.

Join Antoinette in exploring health and harmony through our finger tips. This is an invaluable (and free!) tool for energizing and rebalancing yourself. It is fantastic self-help that is both effective and addictive.

Cancer Diet
by Dr Mohamed Rashidinz Shariff

Many of us may know the influence of food on cancer patients undergoing treatment. Let us first understand the causes of cancer before learning more about cancer-fighting foods.

Cancer is a name given to describe the formation of abnormal cells in our body. There is no specific or one cause. Cancer is caused by a combination of factors. This includes:

Toxic (poisonous) environment
The environment we live in today carries hundreds of thousands of chemicals. In fact, most household products we use contain toxins.

Stress
Today's fast-paced working environment requires highly effective performance. Workers are geared towards meeting deadlines and achieving targets. These phenomena lead to stress and affect the body's immune system, paving ways for viruses, bacteria and parasites to attack the body.

Poor Digestion
Production of essential elements in our bodies decreases as we age, namely, after 35 years. This is especially evident in our digestive system.

The decrease in production of body enzymes affects the digestion process which could lead to malnutrition.

This would change our body condition, and allow illnesses to take form.

Conventional Treatment
Normal procedures for conventional cancer treatment:

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a treatment that uses chemicals to destroy cancer cells by interrupting and preventing them from growing and spreading.

Radiation
Radiation therapy or radiotherapy uses doses of radiation to kill cancer cells, shrink the tumor and relieve the patient.

Surgery
The objectives of surgery include removing the tumor, reshaping the body or relieving the patient. However, most of these conventional treatments contain toxins and side effects that trigger negative reaction in the body.

The Story of a Cancer Patient
About two years ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was coaxed into a mastectomy. After which, she underwent chemotherapy. While being treated, she experienced side effects. For example, when she was given medicine A, she experienced side effects then she was given medicine B, which ended up with a long list of medication. This upset my mother-in-law so much that she decided to discontinue treatment.

This is very common.

Why is Diet Effective?
Research has shown that more than 40% of cancer patients died, not due to cancer but to malnutrition.

When cancer strikes the body, it needs even more nutrition to fight off the cancer.  They found some elements, such as selenium, effective in increasing the efficacy of chemotherapy and radiation, while protecting healthy cells.

Cancer patients can also follow this special diet while undergoing conventional cancer treatment.

It has been proven that diet and supplementary food are able to shrink or deter tumor growth. Low intake of sugar, for example, can delay growth and halt the spread of cancer cells.

Cancer patients may also benefit by avoiding red meat, especially beef and mutton and white meat such as chicken and fish and other seafood. Meat increases body acids and a high acidic environment encourages the spread of cancer cells.

Diet should include more fruits and vegetables. For protein, try nuts, grains and other sources such as soya bean curd. Juices are always better than solid fruits as the nutrients in juices are more easily digested by the body. Vitamins A, C and E have been found to shrink cancer tumor and increase immunity.
