The Deacon's Den
The other day I saw a Lenten marquee sign outside of a church that read, “For Lent, give up apathy and take on empathy.” Just what does that mean, “empathy”? Does it mean “compassion”? Does it mean “pity”? Does it mean “sympathy”? Does it mean “Tenderness”? Does it mean “Mercy”? Well, yes and no. Yes, it means all those things, but, No, it means much more than any one of them.
Empathy is a state of being; it is how we live our lives; it is what we do with the time that has been given to us by God. Empathy is not just feeling sorry for others or sympathizing with another’s situation; it is being there with others, as they struggle with the current conditions of their life. It is being present with another as they confront the often, bleak outlook of their life. But empathy is like muscle; it must be exercised on a regular basis, otherwise it will atrophy and disappear.
So, how do we regularly exercise the muscle of empathy? Well, in order to exercise the muscle of empathy, we need to be involved with others. We need to participate in an activity that is somehow assisting others, giving comfort and assistance to someone else.
Now, I’m talking about the various ministries that we offer here at Prince of Peace. And one of those ministries that is close to my heart is the ministry we have at the Motion Picture and Television Fund; a ministry we have been providing for over 20 years. Being with the people in the long-term and memory care facilities has been a blessing to my life and to the members of our team of ministers. Every Sunday that I’m at the facility, I feel a warmth to and a connection with people who crave the empathetic touch of another.
I would really like you to consider this ministry that Prince of Peace offers to our community, so please contact me at praywithoutwalls@gmail.com and flex your empathetic muscles.
Blessings,
Deacon George

Prayer of the Week:
Prayer of St. Basil
Lord our God, teach us to ask for the right blessings.
Steer the vessel of our life toward You,
tranquil haven of all storm-tossed souls.
Show us the course where we should go.
Renew a willing spirit within us.
Let Your Spirit curb our wayward senses,
and guide and enable us to that which is our true good,
to keep Your laws, and in all our works everywhere
to rejoice in Your glorious and gladdening Presence.
For Yours is the glory and praise forever and ever.
Amen.

LENTEN/EASTER OUTREACH – A CRY FOR HELP
Please give generously during our Lenten/Easter ingathering (March 5-April 17, 2025). All donations will go to St. Matthews, Pacific Palisades and Saint Mark’s, Altadena.
Our hearts go out to all those suffering unimaginable losses and devastation due to the wildfires. We at Prince of Peace are committed to supporting the needs of each of these Episcopal communities impacted by this tragedy.
St. Matthew’s, Pacific Palisades was significantly damaged by the Palisades Fire. The school portion of the campus and rectories (3 clergy residences) were destroyed. The church sustained some damage, and the congregation temporarily worships at St. Augustine By-the-Sea, Santa Monica until they can return to their home church in the Palisades.
Saint Mark’s, Altadena, lost its beautiful church and entire school campus in the Eaton Fire. Their long-term worship home is St. Barnabas in Eagle Rock. During the Peace lasting at least 10 minutes, Rev. Carri shouts out, “St. Mark’s! The lion that can’t be tamed!” More powerfully, “We will not be defeated – we are still strong and prepared to rise powerfully.”
You may donate via cash/checks made out to Prince of Peace with FIRE RELIEF in memo line, or scan the QR code above for more options to give online.

As we begin the Holy Week, we will culminate this series with the greatest miracle of all – Jesus Rises Again!
We will journey with Jesus as he endured a chain of events that led to the cross and His amazing resurrection. We will experience this memorable journey with all our senses. Special thanks to Andy Pullinger, who has offered his “singing bowls” to enhance this experience.
Focus Point: The greatest miracle happens when we give our life to Jesus!
God bless you and all the children Jesus entrusted in our care!

STORY DAY
As Prince of Peace looks to the future with Fr. Rand’s retirement, we are required by the diocese, to put together a profile of our church. The Parish Profile committee would like your input to do this.
On May 4th, after both services, we will be hosting a “Story Day.” Seated in small groups, you will be asked to respond to questions like the following:
- an outstanding memory of your time at Prince of Peace
- most important Parish ministries for you
- your hopes and dreams for the future of Prince of Peace
- aspects of worship that are most important for you
- qualities most important in a Rector
We know that Prince of Peace is important to you, to all of us. We are asking that you come and join us for this special and important time and contribute your thoughts and ideas.
Refreshments will be served and childcare will be provided.
Signups will be taken after each service. Please let us know if you will need childcare.
If you are unable to attend, but want to participate, or have any questions, please contact Patty Papps or Bill Prescott c/o office@popwh.org.

The Prince of Peace website (https://popwh.org) has been updated and moved to a different hosting service.
Due to this update, the website may not be accessible at times until the transition is completed by Friday, April 11th.
The website redesign team members are Rev. Rand Reasoner, Rev. Brian Tucker, Hank Suzukawa, Matte Wicklin, Cara Gordon, Ann Lowe, Alma Fountain and Kevin Fountain.
|
The members spent hours redesigning the look of the website, simplifying the pages, and bringing in photos to show the true spirit of our church and our support for the community. Many thanks to them!
Also, many thanks to Hank Suzukawa for all his hard work on our OLD website over the past decade-PLUS! Much appreciated!
