Two Ways to Give the City Your Input
Participatory Budget Survey
As COVID-19 continues to disrupt our lives, many residents are experiencing challenges with eviction, technology access, employment, food access and more. To help address these issues, City Council has designated $1 million for Participatory Budgeting (PB Durham) grants to support relief in communities hardest hit by the pandemic.
A survey is now open to rank the top areas of need. After the survey closes, Durham-based nonprofits and community organizations will be encouraged to submit proposals to address the priority needs. Then in spring 2021, all city residents and students 13 years and older will have the opportunity to vote on which projects get funding.
Sidewalk Stories Survey
The City of Durham partnered with Precision Safe Sidewalks in November 2020 to assess the current sidewalks in Durham. Sidewalks are an important part of the transportation options available to Durham residents. There are over 600 miles of sidewalks in Durham and almost everyone in Durham has a story about their sidewalk experiences. Sidewalks are a vital way that we connect to work, play and community.
To get feedback on Durham resident experiences on sidewalks, this assessment is kicking off with a Sidewalk Stories collection effort survey. Go to the link below to tell the city about sidewalk conditions you experience or about where sidewalks should go in Durham. Sidewalk Stories will be collected through February 28, 2021.

SpendaBull cards are a great way to support downtown Durham businesses, but they only put money in our small business owners' hands when they're redeemed. So visit your favorite downtown merchant, and spend your SpendaBull card.

COVID-19 Resources and Information
• Up-to-Date Information on Durham County COVID-19 Cases
The Durham County Coronavirus Data Hub is a great one stop shop that provides up-to-date counts of coronavirus cases in Durham County. This easy to use dashboard includes total confirmed cases by day, demographic information and weekly data analyses that indicate whether the rate of infection in the county is going up or down.
You can also watch weekly updates from the Department of Public Health Director
Rodney Jenkins on the department's YouTube channel.
• Resources and Merchant Status Updates
We continue to update the aggregated resources and information for businesses and residents on our site, as well as the lists of downtown restaurants and retailers that are open and offering outdoor seating, curbside or delivery service, online shopping or gift cards. In addition, our President and CEO sends regular emails to businesses and organizations to help them stay abreast of government policies, important webinars, and grant and loan opportunities.

WARM GREETINGS FROM YOUR AMBASSADOR TEAM: FEBRUARY 2021
|
|
Erik Nystrom, Clean and Safe Operations Manager
|
|
As we all start working our way through 2021, we finally have some good news on the horizon: new vaccines are slowly rolling out and they look very promising in helping to finally turn the tables on this devastating pandemic. I cannot imagine anyone late last winter thinking that we would still be dealing with this one year later, but here we are.
Your Ambassador Team continues to be here providing clean and safe services for the Downtown Business Improvement District, and we sincerely hope that our continued presence helps provide a sense of normalcy and comfort during these challenging times. Over the last month we took advantage of some of the dry, mild days we were afforded to complete some special power washing project work in different areas including Durham Central Park, CCB Plaza, Gregson St. and W. Morgan St.
We have still been dealing with a continued spike in graffiti incidents in certain areas, but we’ve been able to respond and quickly remove all the graffiti that we discover or that is reported to us. Also, even though we are in the middle of winter, we are still keeping an eye on and removing a few stubborn weeds that seem to defy Mother Nature. We are also in the process of tuning up all of our equipment, sharpening blades and gathering up our operating supplies for everything dealing with landscaping, since before you know it spring will be here!
As I’ve said every month since last April, we all appreciate your cooperative efforts with social distancing and wearing masks when you engage us when we are out and about working. Keeping the virus in check requires everyone to do their part, and I’m encouraged to see more and more folks practicing the three W’s: WEAR, WAIT, WASH. The Ambassador Team is feeling optimistic about things steadily getter better and all of us getting the upper hand on COVID. We are Durham Strong!
