Share Your Thoughts on Durham's Transit Plan

As part of new Durham Transit Plan outreach, the county is conducting stakeholder meetings with key Durham community organizations and wants to hear from you.

To ensure there is robust engagement and participation from downtown stakeholders, DDI is hosting a Zoom input meeting on Monday, September 13 from 10-11 a.m. Key county staff will be on hand to provide an overview and status update, hear your feedback and answer questions. Please make every effort to attend to hear the latest on the Durham Transit Plan and provide your feedback and thoughts.

Get the Latest on the American Tobacco Waterline Replacement Project

The city's Department of Water Management is improving the existing water and sewer infrastructure between Pettigrew and the Durham Freeway from William Vickers Avenue to Dillard Street. The work also extends along Dillard and Ramseur from Pettigrew to Fayetteville, and will affect traffic patterns across the BID. Find project maps and work updates on the city's project page.

Check Out Our Expanded Restaurants & Bars Quick View Page

DDI has transformed our list of restaurants and bars offering curbside pickup into a "Quick View" resource, showing not only pandemic-related information but also who's open for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We also maintain a quick view page for retailers.

These pages are extremely popular with customers looking for places to dine or shop, so make sure the information about your businesses is accurate and up-to-date! Use the form on each page to submit current info, or email updates to Patrick Holt.

Nominate Your Favorite Downtown Property for a Golden Leaf Award

Do you know of a Durham property that’s outstanding for its design, preservation, curb appeal or stewardship of the natural and built environment? Nominate it now through September 15 for a 2021 Golden Leaf Award.

September's survey asks a few questions about your must-see and must-do downtown experiences.

Please take just a moment to complete the survey. We promise it will take no more than a minute of your time. Plus, you'll be entered to win a $50 SpendaBull card!

Congratulations to Alice S. for winning last month's survey prize drawing!

Reminder: Don't Forget to Order Copies of the New Downtown Merchant Map

We are excited to share our new map and directory of downtown Durham merchants! It features a complete map and merchant listing on one side, with a directory of merchants by category on the other. We'll update this printed map quarterly.

To request a bundle or refill, or if you have any other questions, contact Patrick Holt.

DDI's COVID-19 Resources and Information

With cases of COVID-19 rising dramatically, it is once again vital for merchants, workers and residents to stay informed about the changing state of Durham's pandemic landscape.

DDI's COVID-19 Resources page hosts a wealth of relevant information and resources, including weekly case counts and averages, links to updates from official local, state and national sources, connections to business assistance programs and more.

AMBASSADOR STORIES
The Ambassador Team Prepares for Fall
Erik Nystrom, Clean and Safe Operations Manager
Growing up in New England, September always seemed to be teeming with possibilities: new school year, meeting new friends, playing hockey again and apple season. As a kid in Boston, there were more native apple varieties than people in the fall, and I don’t know of a better place in the world to be if you love apples and cider like I do. It’s one of the things I miss this time of year. My wife did not want to live in southern New England, so I had to make a choice between apples and her, and I ultimately decided that she was better than any apple I was going to find.

The Ambassador Team relishes everything about the autumn season, especially the cooler temperatures and football season. Every Monday morning during the NFL season in the breakroom there is a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking going on! Being a Patriots fan, I take my share of trolling from my staff who are fans of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburg Steelers or the Carolina Panthers.

The Ambassador Team is getting prepared for the fall leaf season, which will be here before you know it, and we’ll be ready to help keep our downtown sidewalks and public spaces as clear of leaves as possible. August’s prolonged, brutal heat and very little rain may help to bring the leaves down a little early this year, but Mother Nature will have the final say on that.

My team and I want to thank all of you for helping to get our litter levels down over the past month. After seeing a spike in loose litter earlier this summer, the levels have once again dropped, and we’ve seen better usage of the hundreds of streetscape trash cans we maintain throughout the BID. This helps to keep critters and pests away as well. Our graffiti activity continues to be much lower than earlier this year, but we can respond quickly when it occurs, as you can see in these photos from a downtown parking deck.
Finally, like many of you, I’m alarmed at the rapid increase in COVID-19 Delta variant cases in our state, especially breakthrough cases. We kindly ask all of you to please continue to practice the three W’s (Wear a mask, Wait 6 feet apart, Wash your hands) – even if you’re fully vaccinated – to keep us all healthy and safe. Let’s all do our part to keep the cases down so that we can all continue to enjoy living, working and playing downtown!
Downtown Durham's dedicated Ambassador Team provides much needed clean and safe services. From sweeping and cleaning the streets, to providing directions for visitors, to jumpstarting car batteries, our ambassadors are here to help. Have questions? Just stop one and ask. Need to submit a service request? Call 919-682-BULL (2855) or submit a request online.
