From Seedlings to Success

Al Kennedy High School students have been diligently preparing for a plant sale since February as part of their Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources classes, which are included in Career and Technical Education programs offered in the South Lane School District. They have planted thousands of seeds, transplanted seedlings, brewed compost tea, fertilized the plants, and conducted research on the medicinal properties of plants and their benefits for pollinators. Additionally, they have assembled hanging baskets and mixed soil for planting.

Our greenhouse has become a bustling hub of activity, fostering significant learning experiences. The best part is that many students are taking plants hometo care for in their gardens, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. The plant sale allows students to extend their learning from planting and growing to include valuable business skills relevant to various career fields.
