A Message from the Executive Director
Hello,
Happy almost summer! As we head into the end of this school year, I’m especially grateful this year as we start to emerge from pandemic restrictions and return to a “new normal.”
In this edition of our newsletter, you’ll learn more about what Pivot’s “new normal” looks like, now that students are able to return to in-person education. While our teachers and staff are incredibly excited to reconnect in-person with students and families, we remain focused on health and safety as our top priorities and have put appropriate measures in place. We also recognize that returning to in-person learning is an adjustment for the entire Pivot family, and we have resources available to help aid in that transition.
We learned a great deal about our students’ needs and interests these past 15 months through the pandemic as well as our strengths and areas where we can grow. We appreciate your responses to the surveys we have disseminated this year so that we can continue to provide a program that supports all of our students to meet their academic goals. Please look for emails from us in the next few months to learn about the exciting changes we are making to the schedules at our resource centers next year.
As we wrap up the 2020-2021 school year, I want to share my Congratulations with the Class of 2021. Over the past two years, this class of students has overcome so many challenges, and I am so proud of their resilience and dedication. I’m excited to share that Pivot will be hosting safe, in-person graduation events this year – where we can celebrate all the amazing Class of 2021 grads!
Thank you to the entire Pivot family for your flexibility and support throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Our community didn’t only survive – we thrived – and now that we are putting the pandemic behind us, I see even greater things ahead in Pivot’s future!
Sincerely,

Pivot Charter Schools
|
For the first time in more than a year, students stepped foot into their Resource Centers on Monday, April 12, 2021. Through rotating schedules and stable and cohort groups, students were able to safely get academic support and socialize with their peers again.
To ensure returning to in-person learning went as smoothly as possible, Pivot created and implemented a COVID-19 safety plan for each site so all the proper safety guidelines were followed and all students and staff stayed safe and healthy.

Though Sam Hart, Educational Coordinator at Pivot North Valley, just started at Pivot last fall, he is no stranger to charter schools. After teaching young adults at another charter school for six years, Sam decided to bring his talents and passion for teaching to Pivot.
You can read more about Sam and his first (almost completely virtual) year with Pivot HERE.

Savannah Robinson graduated (early) from Pivot North Bay in March 2021 after taking control of her education by starting at Pivot during her sophomore year of high school. When the social and educational culture at Savannah’s traditional high school started to cause unnecessary distractions and stress, she began considering other options for high school.

As schools across the country continue to grapple with COVID-19-related concerns over potential loss of learning, Pivot Charter School, a non-classroom based charter school, is proud to announce that its 2020-2021 data shows an overall increase in learning among Pivot students. This is an amazing feat given that many students enroll at Pivot to turn around (or “pivot”) their current educational environment, attitudes, and success.

Did You Miss Our Virtual Open House?
|
On April 22, Pivot Charter School hosted a virtual 2021 Open House to talk to prospective parents about Pivot’s mission, curriculum, who we serve and how we can help students struggle less and learn more. Our dedicated teachers and staff explained how Pivot’s unique learning program can help a variety of students catch up, get ahead and successfully meet their educational goals. Watch the Spring 2021 Virtual Open House video or send it to a friend or family member whose student may benefit from attending Pivot.

We're Expanding and Continuing Online Workshops!
|
When the 2020-2021 school year started, Pivot expanded its schoolwide online workshop schedule with fun and educational workshops to give students the opportunity to get assistance or learn something new from teachers at any of the four Pivot sites. Due to the overwhelming number of students who participated and overall success of the workshops, Pivot decided to continue the expanded program!
Although Resource Centers have reopened, Pivot will continue to offer interesting and helpful workshops to each age group. Previously, elementary school students were offered classes on meditation, origami, coins, wiggle time and more. On top of one-on-one office hours, middle and high school students had the opportunity to participate in guitar lessons or writing help, among other options. Pivot Educational Coordinators are already dreaming up the workshops to offer during the 2021-2022 school year both online and at the resource centers, so stay tuned!

Pivot Charter School Riverside is excited to host our 2021 graduation on Friday, June 11 at 4 PM! It will be held on campus at the Riverside site at 700 N. Main Street, Corona, CA 92878. The graduates will be presented with their diplomas one at a time.
