Governor Newsom: Hitting the Ground Running

Governor Newsom signed a first-in-the-nation executive order to create the largest single purchase for prescription drugs and includes a California Surgeon General, who will lead all Californians in addressing the root causes of serious health conditions, such as adverse childhood experiences and the social determinants of health The overwhelming scientific consensus is that there are early signals and causes of many serious health conditions. The Surgeon General will marshal the insights and energy of medical professionals, public health experts, public servants, and everyday Californians to address health inequity as early as possible in all Californian's lives. In addition, the Governor has released his proposal for the 2019-2020 budget. The $209 billion spending plan includes increased funds for health and human services and education. The California Budget & Policy Center is holding a briefing webinar on the proposed budget that you can

Kids' Day at the Capitol

The California Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention, in partnership with the Child Abuse Prevention Center would like to invite you to participate in the second annual "Kids' Day at the Capitol, event on April 11, 2019 from 10am to 2pm. They are asking that family resource centers, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, child abuse prevention centers, healthcare providers, and other working to strengthen families to join the event. By hosting a booth complete with child-friendly activities and resources for families and community members.
The event's program will include guest speakers, awards, and interactive performance. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about our work in the family strengthening field during Child Abuse Prevention Month, provide outreach to families, meet other organizations from throughout the sate, and, most importantly, celebrate California's kids, who we work to keep safe and healthy every day.

Family Resource Centers: Vehicles for Change Webinar Series

This four-part webinar series provides a comprehensive, deeper dive into the themes, messages and frameworks presented in Family Resource Centers, Vehicles for Change – volume 2. The series will focus on the elements that make FRCs unique platforms for strengthening families and communities, and highlight organizations whose work exemplifies the topics. Each interactive webinar will define the topic, give examples, and provide concrete tools and resources to enhance understanding, learning, and application. The series also acts as a spark or springboard for family resource centers and other family strengthening organizations to participate in the Family Resource Center Core Training, available Summer 2019.
