A new year with new adventures

We have many new events planned to start your year off right.

As we ring in 2023, take a look at the fun we have in store. And remember, winter is a beautiful time to get outside, get fresh air, and really see things. Snow covering gives you the chance to see who we share our land with (see the photo below). We have a new trail to introduce you to, and a full moon hike (hopefully with snow!).

In February we are bringing back our Eyes on Owls program. It is presented through Prescott, see the information below.

We have two new events we are excited to share as well. In March we present Dr. Scott Edwards and his cross-country birding adventure. In May, we are excited to have Sally Naser from the Trustees of Reservations share her critter cam expertise. More information about these events are on the right.

It's also never too late to help us in the important work we do conserving and protecting land in Groton. Your donation goes a long way in making events, education and conservation possible!

GCT trustee Susan Hughes will lead a hike through GCT's Fitch-Woods, and the Conservation Commission's McLain's Woods and Walker land to introduce you to a new loop trail on GCT's Perry Land. This beautiful trail includes a hilltop, a dramatic ridge and at the center, a giant rock. Don't miss this one! This is a free event, but please register so we know to expect you.

Harvard Professor and curator Dr. Scott Edwards talks about biking and birding across America in 2020. He started the journey to learn about the birds of America, but after George Floyd's murder, the trip evolved as he learned about our humanity. He is shown below traveling in Wyoming. This is a free event, but registration is required. This talk is made possible through a generous grant from The Groton Commissioners of Trust Funds.

We are thrilled to welcome Sally Naser, the director of conservation restriction (a.k.a. easement) stewardship for The Trustees of Reservations, in Massachusetts. She’s also worked for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and is a skilled camera trapper who has snagged photos and videos of a wide array of wildlife. This is part of the GCT annual meeting, so stay tuned for more information.

The Groton Conservation Trust is a private, non-profit land trust in Groton, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1964 to acquire, preserve, and provide public access to lands with significant conservation value. The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of Groton residents with varied backgrounds, occupations and interests.
