Appointment Notice Update

In an effort to accomodate the needs of all our patients, we ask that you give us at least 24-hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. We appreciate your cooperation.

Best of Luck to Dr. McGlothlin!

Dr. McGlothlin will be leaving at the end of February after more than six years as an Associate Veterinarian here at Lawndale Veterinary Hospital. She is moving to be closer to her family and while we will miss her greatly, we wish her nothing but the best! We know you share in our gratitude to Dr. McGlothlin for her years of dedication and service to the patients of Lawndale Veterinary Hospital.

Labwork at Lawndale

Labwork can provide helpful information about pets of all ages.

What information can be gained from labwork?

Laboratory testing is a minimally invasive tool that can give us a better understanding about an animal’s internal metabolic status. We often start with the following tests:

  • Chemistry panel: Provides information about the kidneys, liver, pancreas, protein levels, blood glucose, electrolytes, and lipids.
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): Provides information about red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets; looks for evidence of infection, inflammation, blood parasites, or cancer.
  • Urinalysis: Provides information about kidney function; looks for evidence of infection, crystals, or other abnormal urine components.
  • Thyroid function: As pets age, alterations in thyroid function become more common. Dogs can develop hypothyroidism, and cats can develop hyperthyroidism.

Wondering Why It May Have Been Harder to Get That Last Minute Vet Appointment?

You may have heard that with COVID came a lot of extra pet adoptions which in turn increased the need for appointments at veterinary offices. We were no exception to this rule and have continued to try to meet the needs of our patients. We have hired more staff and we continue to make changes to our scheduling protocols so that we are better able to meet the needs of our patients.

How can you help? Plan ahead and schedule your pet’s wellness and vaccine visit several weeks in advance. This will allow us to have more appointment slots open for same-day sick visits and urgent needs. Also, please know that every day we are working a fully booked or overbooked schedule and that we try our best to see every patient same-day that is sick or injured but if you are calling with a need that isn’t medically urgent, we may ask that you allow us to book your appointment for a later date.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.
