It's 2026! After a truly whirlwind holiday season, we are resetting and restocking and readying ourselves for a quieter few weeks in the store. It's extra quiet now that we don't hear anyone remarking about the enormous whale on top of our Classics shelf. We have mixed feelings about Gilbert the Whale finally selling - glad he's enjoying a forever home and glad to have so much shelf space back, but it was fun dressing him up for different holidays and letting him pose with topical titles.
Our "new" releases below cover late November and December publication dates and I, a devoted British Royals watcher, really enjoyed The Heir Apparent. I am also excited about a number of new titles coming this month. This Tuesday, you can Meet The Newmans, which is an excellent choice for fans of Lessons in Chemistry and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Alice Feeney also has an upcoming release called My Husband's Wife which was twisty and dramatic and utterly bonkers, as I've come to expect and enjoy from her work. We're also getting new titles from Julian Barnes, Paula McLain, and Laura Dave, plus a buzzy debut from Rebecca Hannigan.
I'll close with a huge thank you to everyone who shopped for holiday gifts and cards at Barrett. Despite selling out of The Correspondent and 1929 as soon as new shipments arrived, all of us worked hard to ensure you had a great book in hand to give to your friends and family. Here's to a new year filled with new books!
