MPC Foundation Celebrates Thirty Years

of Empowering MPC Students!

Traditionally, 30th anniversaries are celebrated with pearls, a symbol of wisdom - which is rather fitting for an organization whose purpose is to facilitate learning!

As the MPC Foundation launches into its 30th year in 2024, we have a lot to be proud of and so many people to thank (far too many to name here, unfortunately).

Here are just a few of the milestones we've reached since our humble beginnings as a small group of concerned citizens in 1994:

  1. Provided over $5 million to more than 2,500 students in scholarships and Evans College Incentive Program awards.
  2. Awarded 392 Faculty and Staff Advancement Awards totaling $495K to allow for continued learning and innovation at MPC.
  3. Played leading roles in both of MPC's capital bond measure campaigns (Measures I and V), securing a total of $375 million for campus facilities and technology.
  4. Raised support for significant campus projects, notably the Library & Technology Center through the Renaissance Campaign.
  5. Secured an additional $20 million in State & Federal grant funds for MPC for a variety of projects, including STEM, online education, student services, and more.

We hope you're as excited as we are to see where the next 30 years will take us! In the meantime, here are some ways you might join us in celebrating:

  1. Make a commemorative $30 gift - perhaps to honor a loved one, professor, or alumni whose life was touched by MPC - or simply to help a current student get a start on their college education.
  2. Share your MPC Story - we love to hear from retirees and alumni!
  3. Join us for a "Year in Review: Empowered by You" virtual event on Thursday, February 8 from 4-5pm where we'll recap the impact our donors made in 2023 and share some student success stories. Click here for more information.

Be on the lookout for more ways to engage, empower, and connect with us throughout this celebratory 30th year for the MPC Foundation!

Remembering Dr. Peggy Downes Baskin

Like so many other community members and organizations, the MPC family mourns the recent loss of the remarkable Dr. Peggy Downes Baskin.

Having begun her esteemed teaching career at MPC, she remained deeply committed to the college, its faculty, staff, and students. In 2011, she was presented with the prestigious MPC President's Award in recognition of her many accomplishments and contributions to the college and communities we serve, including her unwavering devotion to education and helping students overcome obstacles in order to achieve their academic goals.

Dr. Baskin's enduring legacy continues at MPC through the library commons area that bears her name, as well as the crucial programs that she inspired and generously supported. Among those is an endowment fund that allows faculty to engage in ongoing professional development, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to continued learning.

In addition, Dr. Baskin was among key contributors to the Women Supporting Women component of the MPC Foundation's Emergency Assistance program, providing crucial support for female students facing financial difficulties that may otherwise cause them to drop out of college. We are also honored to be among the organizations who receive grant funding from the Peggy & Jack Baskin Foundation, an organization dedicated to creating and supporting strategies to reach gender and racial equity.
