Happy 4th of July

The Independence Day program activities have been planned by the City of Fitzgerald in conjunction with the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Department of Leisure Services and the City of Fitzgerald Tourism Office. Special thanks to the City of Fitzgerald Public Works, Department of Leisure Services, Ben Hill County, Chamber of Commerce, Ben Hill County Volunteer Fire Department, Fitzgerald Fire Department, Fitzgerald Police Department, Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office, and City Hall staff for their assistance with the work which makes this event possible for the citizens of our community.    

 

Mayor Mark Massee, City of Fitzgerald, invite the citizens of our community and the surrounding area to join us on this special occasion.

6:00 p.m.       Live Band Stand: Saggy Bottom Boys & Darlin' - Bluegrass

7:30 p.m.       Live Band Stand: Swamp Central   Rock, Southern Rock, Country

9:00 p.m.       Independence Day Observance: Pledge of Allegiance & National Anthem

9:15 p.m.       Independence Day Fireworks Show

  

DLS Concessions: At 4:00 p.m., free hotdogs, potato chips and drinks will be served by the DLS staff as long as food supplies last. The drinks are donated courtesy of Deep South Products/Polar Beverages, Fitzgerald.

 

Watermelon Eating Contest: Cash prize awards will be given to the winners of the contest in the amount of First Prize = $15.00; Second Prize = $10.00; Third Prize = $5.00 for each of the two age categories 6 & under and Ages 7-12.

 

Buried Treasure Hunt:

Twenty (20) Cash Prize awards in the amount of $5.00 each await the children who want to dig into a special Buried Treasure Site in the park. Ten (10) prizes will be buried in the Ages 6 & under site, and ten (10) prizes will be buried in a separate Ages 7-12 site. The "Big Dig" site will also be located in a controlled weather environment which will include "rain" provided by the Fitzgerald Fire Department. The cash money will be hermetically sealed in plastic eggs and randomly buried. Children should be prepared to get dirty...get muddy....get wet......and get rich when the lucky ones find the buried treasure.   

 

Greased Pole: Cash prize awards will be given to the winners of the contest in the amount noted as follows for the respective age groups:

            $100.00                        Ages 12 & Under          Short Pole  

            $100.00                        Ages 13-18                     Tall Pole

Vendors Invited

 

We are inviting any interested carnival and festival vendors, as well as civic and church groups and non-profit organizations, who sell arts & crafts, T-Shirts, and food and beverage services to come and enjoy the day with the people of our community. Vendors may request an application from the Department of Leisure Services office (426-5050). Vendor fees are as follows:

            
            $30.00               Arts & Crafts

            $50.00              Food & Beverage

            $25.00              Non-Profit Organizations (civic clubs, churches, other)

 

NOTE: NO FIREWORKS, INCLUDING FIRECRACKERS, WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY OTHER THAN THOSE ORGANIZED AND PERMITTED FOR THIS EVENT.
