YOUR NAME MATTERS
Name Tag
Why wear a name tag?
  • Name tags encourage conversation;
  • Name tags promote an outward focus;
  • Name tags make guests feel more comfortable; &
  • Some folks aren't great at remembering names!
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
You can provide flowers for one of our  Sunday  services  in the name of someone, such as to mark a birthday or anniversary, in memory of someone who's passed on, or to the  Glory to God. Look for the Flowers  sign-up sheet in the lobby of the church. Choose an open date, and put a  check for $45 into the collection plate any Sunday with "Flowers" in the memo line.  Thank you!
Our phone number, P.O. box

St. Catherine's updated its phone number this year; the last four digits stayed the same but the first three numbers changed to 851.  The new number is: (775) 851-4168. We also moved our mailing address to the McCabe USPS branch:  P.O. Box 17831, Reno, NV 89511.
Pledges can be set up with a bank's automatic bill pay

Some St. Catherine's members have found it very convenient to use their bank's "bill pay" service to handle their pledge to the church.  You can instruct your bank to have a check of a certain amount generated on a certain date, which will then show up automatically each month at the church's P.O. box. If you're interested in setting this up to save yourself the step of writing checks for your pledge, please talk to your bank or financial institution to find out the details.

December 2019
Vestry Corner

By Charlie Dickinson, Sr. Warden

We look forward to a new church year at St. Catherine's as we enter the Advent Season on Sunday,
December 1.

Advent brings a new Church year, and the first Sunday with our new full-time Priest, Father Thomas Blake.

This is an exciting time at St. Catherine's with new beginnings for services, our missions to serve the community, and additional worship and religious study opportunities.

The Parish would like to thank Rev. Mike Patterson and Rev. Dr. Bob Swope for their help and guidance
in leading our worship services over the past few months.

We have just completed our pledge campaign and will be developing our budget for 2020, which will be presented at the January annual meeting. We wish to thank those who have turned in their pledge cards. Those of you who have yet to return you pledge card, please consider making your financial commitment to St. Catherine's in December. Your support, whether it is time, talent or treasure, is the lifeblood of our Parish.

At our annual meeting in January we will be electing 3 Vestry members. Anybody interested in learning
more about the Vestry please contact me or any other Vestry member for more information. I have
found serving on the Vestry to be a worthwhile experience and an important to way contribute to the
success of the parish.

As we finish one church year and head into the future, we will continue to make St. Catherine's a welcoming place in which to worship and to serve the community. We thank the parish community for our blessings and support as we complete our year of transition.

"In community, Love God, Love others, serve both" has been our mission statement since the beginning.
We will continue to "Shine the Light"!
Jump-Start Kitchen: A Community Outreach

By Liz Skogerson,
Jr. Warden

Karen Wilkes, from St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Boulder City, will be at St. Catherine's this Monday, Dec. 2, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. to share and demonstrate the classes they offer to their community teaching a "slow cooking" method using the Crock Pot!

These classes help support those living in weekly motels, busy working families, and those living alone. The classes teach how to make inexpensive and nutritional meals, hopefully reducing dependence on the fast food option.

Participants will leave the class having sampled a prepared meal, as well as with the recipe and a few ingredients to get them started.

They also give away a new Crock Pot at each class to someone who does not have one.

If you think you are interested or curious about how this might help our community, and if you think we could do this too at St. Catherine's, please come and hear Karen's enthusiastic presentation -- and taste her Crock Pot chicken tortilla soup.
St. Nick's Helpers
Five families 'adopted' for Christmas

By Sally Dickinson, Treasurer

Beginning this Sunday, Dec. 1, there will be 50 tree tags which contain gift wishes for 5 families with 15 children who  attend Double Diamond Elementary.
These are families who are in need of a bit of help this Christmas.

Please look over these gift wishes. If you decide to take one or more tags, please write your name on the list next to the tag number.  ** All gifts need to be returned by December 15th, wrapped, with the tree tag attached.**

We will get the gifts delivered to Double Diamond before the students go home for their winter holidays.  Thank you in advance for all your help and generosity.

If you prefer to donate by check, make the check payable to "UTO" and put it in one of the UTO envelopes on the greeter's table in our entryway at church.  Thank you for your support.

Thank you to those who have contributed to our lending library. Please leave any book contributions on the bookshelf in the meeting room. Peruse and borrow a selection of your choice any time.

Donate books to 'Spread the Word'

Spread the Word Nevada is a childhood literacy program that hosts story times for local children and their families, and offers free books to kids at more than 60 at-risk elementary schools in the state. Can you donate some chidlren's books to help them in their mission?

Our own Georgia Tachoires is collecting books to donate to this group. She said the program has requested new or gently-used children's books with general, non-religious themes. Georgia will have a donation box at church and plans to deliver all the books early in December.

To learn more about the program visit SpreadtheWordNevada.org, or email Georgia at tachoires@me.com. Thank you!
