ecopark Videos

Monroe County's award-winning "Recycling Right Begins With You!" video has been updated to reflect changes made to the recycling sorting operation during a $3.5 million dollar upgrade at the Monroe County Recycling Center.

These plant improvements, funded by Waste Management, are designed to enable the recovery of even more valuable materials from the residential recycling stream.

Additionally, the

Monroe County / Waste Management ecopark  video has been revised and updated to reflect program changes.

Cleaning out closets?

In the United States, textile waste - unwanted clothing, shoes, belts,  blankets, linens, etc. is one of the fastest growing waste streams.

As we transition our homes - and our closets - for another winter, remember: according to the EPA, the average person throws away 81 pounds of clothing EVERY YEAR - only 15 percent of that is recycled and 85 percent ends up in landfills!

When organizing for a new season, remember these words:

Reuse - Repair - Recycle!

Clothing and textiles can be donated - regardless of condition - as long as they are clean, dry and odorless

Another reason to celebrate America Recycles Day!

Monroe County Environmental Services Director Michael Garland, P.E., received the Public Sector Recycling Leadership Award from the New York State Association for Reduce, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3) during the organization's annual conference, held in Cooperstown.

The Recycling Leadership Award "recognizes an individual or team from the public sector, whose job-related actions or creative solutions have furthered waste prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling, and/or composting."

Director Garland was nominated by Waste Management in recognition of Monroe County's E-Cigarette, Vape Device and E-Liquid takeback and recycling program, the first program of its kind in New York State and among the first in the nation.
