Do you remember what you were doing October 27, 1976? This was the day my dad, Bob Thielen, founded “National Tooling and Machining”, and NTM has been a family-run business ever since. 

While some things have changed, our commitment to our customers has stayed the very same since day one; do a job right the first time and provide high quality work every time.

We love custom jobs!

Our business has always been about meeting the needs of our customers, but did you know that one of our most popular products started out as a custom job?

Customer after customer would come to us and request standard boring bars be cut down into shorter pieces. Seeing these repeat requests coming in, we knew that others would have a need for shorter boring bars, and thanks to the innovative team here at NTM,  the “Stubby” boring bar was born!

Stubby has been a part of our product suite for the last 30 years. Who knows, maybe your custom needs will be the genesis of our next great product. 

What custom need can we solve for you?

The Takamaz hard turning lathe acquired in 2017. The Takamaz is used to turn the bunting dies, and is instrumental in reducing processes and improving production.

Technology is constantly evolving, and we are committed to staying ahead of the curve.We rely on our team of experts and customer feedback to improve our products and services. 

Take out best-selling, magnetic V-blocks. While not a new product, we’ve improved the efficiencies and increased capacity over the years. Through some refinement (and a little trial and error) our best-selling ultra-precision magnetic V-blocks were developed. And now in 2023, we are making more V-blocks than ever! You can find these products in manufacturers all over the nation.

We continually strive to learn and grow our services and product selection in order to meet the needs of our customers.

NTM started out as, and continues on today as a family-owned business. Dad ran the business until he passed in January of 1999, and that’s when my mom took over. There were several offers to sell the business during this initial period, but it was important to my mom to keep the legacy of NTM within our family. Mom was an integral part of the day-to-day of the business since the beginning and continued to run it after Dad passed until 2011. That entrepreneurial spirit was passed down to my sister Cindy and I, who are now co-running the business since 2016.

What started out as a small machine shop, has grown into the thriving national business it is today. And all of us here at NTM owe that success to you, our customers. Thank you for your continued business and support.
