Rowan Helping Ministries' Monthly News and Updates | August 2022

Happy August! This month as we wrap up summer and prepare our school-age kids to head back to school. Let us remember those families in our community that are in need of food, shelter, or, just someone to pray for them during their difficult times.

Ashley Jones, Former Shelter Guest & Crisis Assistance Client
"I thank my Mom and Dad every day for dropping me off at the shelter."
It is our goal to meet our clients where they are and provide them with the resources needed to obtain stable housing and be sustainable. We did just that for Ashley. Years ago she was a shelter guest when all operations were under one roof in the Ralph Ketner Center. "I learned about the shelter because I volunteered as a part of the DSS work first program. After completing the program, I found a job, got back on my feet, and a few months later lost everything," Ashley explained. When Ashley lost her job, she packed up her kids and moved into the shelter. Ashley stayed with us for 8 months and in that time she went back to school and got an apartment. She is currently working as a CNA, and she visits us when she needs food and clothing. "I thank my Mom and Dad every day for dropping me off at the shelter, that was the best thing that happened to me, it helped me a lot," Ashley said.

He's Alive Church Brings Bible Study to the
Robertson Stanback Center
During the peak of COVID-19, our New Tomorrow's classes were meeting virtually, as a result, many of the programs were placed on pause. Education & Transitional Manager, Jeanne LeMaster, was very excited when He's Alive Church expressed an interest in hosting an in-person bible study at the shelter. Care Pastor Doug Hardin pulled his team together and started an in-person weekly bible study. The response from the guests is amazing! They look forward to the session every single week "This week I had a line of guests waiting by the door for the class to start, they love it." Jeanne shared. Thank you, Pastor Doug and He's Alive Church, for bringing the word of God back into our shelter.
