August 2023

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FELLOW VIRGOS!

As of August 30th, I will have made 77 complete trips around the sun! That means I have been spinning through space for 28,105 days rotating at 67,000 mph with each annual trip traveling around the sun for 584 million miles which adds up to a total of 44.97 billion miles. That’s comes out to roughly 1.6 million miles per day. I’m exhausted!

No wonder I’ve been tired and dizzy lately along with this constant ringing in my ears.

I thought it was just the early onset of old age.

Love Is All There Is!

The Story behind the song!

Some time ago, I was playing in a six-piece band with great singers and a sax player. That experience inspired me to write this song with a bit of a funky R&B feel. It started out as a guitar figure which I used for the introduction and then it grew into a full arrangement. The song was originally intended for the band to learn but they, especially the bass player, refused to do any original songs. We are all still friends, but at that point, my days with the band were numbered.

I took this song to Chris Gage, and we started working on it. We decided to add a saxophone to the process. Steve Berstein came into the studio to lay down his track. The introduction to the track is him rehearsing before the song started. It fits perfectly. By the time all the tracks and vocals were completed, it sounded just like I heard it in my head.

I wonder what it would have sounded like had the band decided to perform it. I guess we’ll never know.

Deep down, we all know that Love is the Answer. What's it going to take for humanity to understand that the expression of Love is our one and only mantra?

Please share if you like this song and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

What’s Happening at RpT’s Library

I know I have been talking about finishing up five songs for quite some time. I am proud to say that I am back on track. In addition, four new songs are starting to take shape. The proof will be presented to you in next month's Downbeat.

OK – now I’m committed. What have I done?

If you happen to be in the neighborhood, I am performing with my friend, Allen Hurt, at Solas Gallery 2 Rock Creek Drive in Salado on Saturday, August 26th @ 7 PM. Hope to see you there.

In case you missed the earlier newsletters, here is a link to the ones we have completed so far this year.
