NOW OPEN:
In the Fields of the North / En los campos del norte

David Bacon at In the Fields of the North exhibit opening.
History San Jos é's latest exhibit is now open! In the Fields of the North / En los campos del norte features  photos from activist and photojournalist, David Bacon, as he follows migrant farm workers during the fruit and harvest season from the Mexican border to Washington state.  Bacon's evocative photographs, alongside moving oral narratives from migrant farm workers, give viewers a glimpse into the lives of people who preform some of the most demanding physical labor to help put food on our tables.

Big thanks to all of our Members, friends, and David Bacon for joining us to celebrate the exhibit opening. Special thanks as well to Exhibit Envoy and our exhibit sponsors Robert J. Bettencourt and Councilmember Donald Rocha!

Join us for a discussion with David Bacon on the exhibit and his work later this winter on January 14 in History Park's Empire Firehouse (details & tickets below).

In the Fields of the North / En los campos del norte is open Tuesday - Sunday, 11:00am - 4:30pm, from
October 26, 2017 to June 3, 2018 in the Arbuckle Gallery in the Pacific Hotel at History Park.

Thanks to Our Veterans!
November 11 is Veterans Day and we wanted to share a special piece from the HSJ Collection to mark the occasion. This bomber jacket belonged to Captain Samuel L. Washington, one of the Tuskegee Airmen - an all African American pursuit squadron out of Tuskegee, Alabama. Based in Italy during WWII, Washington and his fellow airmen provided air support for numerous bomber missions over Germany. Retiring from military service as a Lieutenant, Washington eventually settled in San Jose with his wife Mary. Our sincere thanks go out to Lieutenant Washington and to all our veterans for their service!
