A New Look for Place des Arts Check out our new brand!
Over the years, we've heard many words used to describe the Place des Arts vibe: warm, welcoming, vibrant, inspiring. But chief among them is the word home. "Place des Arts is like home to me" is the phrase we've heard more than any other. It is no surprise, then, that home was the word that inspired the development of our new logo and the tagline:
Home to our arts community.
This past year, we worked with award-winning design studio
Carter Hales who took inspiration from the iconic mansard roof line of our original historic home to design the striking "A"- the centrepiece of our new logo. Their
colourful palette and illustrations evoke inspiration and the warm, welcoming feeling that so many experience here. And the bold but friendly look reflects our goal to increase awareness of the arts, remove barriers to participation and invite more people to explore their creativity in meaningful ways.
If you haven't been to Place des Arts lately, stop by to see the vibrant new banners hanging in the Atrium and all the other ways we've integrated our new brand into the centre.
We're also excitedly awaiting a new website that Carter Hales is currently working on. It will launch in September!

Art Teacher Travels to Guatemala
Dawn Livera learns Mayan textile practices
In May, our wonderful visual and fibre arts teacher
Dawn Livera took a one-week break from teaching at Place des Arts to go on an inspiring weaving trip to Guatemala organized by
Thread Caravan.
During the trip, she and the group she was with visited several communities near Lake Atitlan where they learned about Mayan textile practices.
They learned how to process and spin Ixcaco (naturally brown cotton) on a supported spindle in Chuacruz, spent a day dyeing cotton with local plants in San Juan La Laguna, and then each worked one-on-one with a weaving teacher to learn about backstrap weaving in San Antonio Palopo. On their last evening, they attended an embroidery workshop organized by Casa Flor, a small clothing company based in Antigua.
Dawn says, "Of course I came home with a suitcase full of beautiful, handwoven fabrics that I can bring to my weaving classes at Place des Arts to inspire my students!"
Sadly, shortly after Dawn returned home, the devastating volcanic eruption in Guatemala directly impacted the family of Casa Flor's tailor Irma, several of whom lost homes and a few who lost their lives. If you'd like more information about this, or are inspired to offer some volcano relief, Dawn encourages you to visit

Call for Artists!
Sell your wares in our Christmas Boutique
Are you an artist or artisan who creates beautiful handcrafted items that would be perfect to sell in our Christmas Boutique?
We're currently seeking to attract artisans who create items such as handmade beeswax candles, stationery and greeting cards, and knitted items, particularly those made from natural fibres. Place des Arts will not be accepting prints of any kind, jewelry or ceramics.
Items do not necessarily need to be Christmas themed, but can be gifts that hold year-round appeal. All works are for sale and artisans set prices. Place des Arts retains 30% of the retail price. A $10 application fee applies.
Deadline for submission is Friday, July 27
