For many in our community, including myself, today is the celebration of Dominican Independence Day, a day of great pride for the Dominican Community.
As the largest immigrant group in New York City, Dominican-Americans have permeated our society and New York City culture in countless ways. Through music and dance, medicine and acting, academics and sport and so much more, this vibrant and hard-working community continues to strive, making our city better for all.
This day follows a weekend where for the first time in its history, the Democratic National Committee will be led by a Dominican, Thomas Perez.
The spirit and pride of this day is felt by many across our great city, so for all those celebrating, I would like to wish you a very happy Dominican Independence Day!
