Ventura Compost Co-op

Last month, the Ventura Compost Co-op had a Meet & Greet event at local Certified Green Business, Harvest Cafe.

The Compost Co-op allows participating members to drop off their food scraps in designated bins at Cornucopia Community Gardens. These food scraps are composted on-site, and members will be able to enjoy the benefits of the finished compost.

As always, thank you to our local Queen of Compost, Camila Guzman, for her continued support.

Thanks for composting, and rot on! 🤘

Residential Food Waste

Recycling Program

The Residential Food Waste Recycling Program is currently available to all single-family residences in Ventura and is actively rolling out to multi-family properties. This program allows residents to comply with SB 1383 and reduce methane emissions caused by food in landfills. Follow these steps to participate:

  1. If you have a yard waste or food waste recycling container, collect food scraps at home (ALL food can be collected. Cooked, not cooked, meat, bones - all food.) Put the collected food in a bag of any kind, secure the top, and add it to your yard waste bin or designated food waste container.
  2. If you don't have a yard waste or food waste recycling container, encourage your property manager to contact E.J. Harrison & Sons to begin service.

Participating in this program helps fight climate change by reducing methane emissions caused by food waste in landfills. To request food waste pails or for additional questions, please contact the City's Division of Environmental Sustainability:
