I
t’s fall already! Time to turn the clocks back and put the summer clothes away once and for all. For us, it's time to start preparing for
National Rebuilding Day
on
April 25th, 2020
! We've been meeting with sponsors to share the moving stories they made happen from
NRD 2019
, reaching out to volunteers, and collecting applications from our neighbors in need. As we approach the season of giving, I invite you to sign up to volunteer (no skills needed!), and/or partner with us by making a financial contribution. On behalf of our board, staff and homeowners, thank you for helping make 2019, our 30th year, such a success. And please invest in RTP
now to help us continue to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives.

On September 28th, the MidPen Media Center honored Bob Rosenberg with a Local Hero award for serving as an RTP Construction Captain for 19 years. In his acceptance speech, Bob noted, "the power of many hands combined in a single day magnifies the experience for everyone..." Bob truly embraces the spirit of our work -- members of our community coming together to help our neighbors in need. We are fortunate to have Bob as our Local Hero. Congratulations, Bob!

On Saturday, September 14th, Facebook partnered with Rebuilding Together Peninsula to restore three homes in the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park. A team of 50 Facebook employees joined RTP staff and skilled volunteers to make repairs and ensure that our neighbors in need have safe and healthy housing. Many thanks to Facebook for the tremendous support!

The Wollenberg Award is presented annually to organizations and individuals who provide extraordinary support and leadership to Rebuilding Together Peninsula. The 2018 award is proudly presented to the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto and Eddie Raymond.

The Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto:
From stuffing envelopes to building fences, the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto is always busy with a project. Fortunately for us, they have been active supporters of National Rebuilding Day since the 1990’s putting their teams to work on our neighborhood projects.
According to Kiwanis member and RTP Construction Captain, Brian Dahlquist, “RTP is right up our alley.” Kiwanis members like to build things and RTP gives them the opportunity to rebuild and make a difference. “We really enjoy working with RPT because we feel the impact of our projects,” says Brian.
The club has worked on several community facilities including Head Start in Menlo Park, the Aspire East Palo Alto Charter School, and EPA CANDO. “We’re usually working by ourselves on projects, but RTP gives us the opportunity to collaborate with other service organizations – that’s a real plus,” says RTP Volunteer Captain Marty Deggeller.
RTP is grateful for the longstanding commitment of the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto for raising funds and providing enthusiastic volunteers for our projects.

Eddie Raymond:
Eddie Raymond has always been a “do-er.” From an early age, Eddie’s parents instilled in him an incredible work ethic, stressing the importance of both giving back to the community and getting things done. When Eddie was just six years old, his father taught him how to use tools.
Eddie has been a leader in the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Union and the Entertainment Industry, where he developed skills in stage lighting, theatrical production, and live event technologies.
In 2001 Eddie began volunteering with RTP logging countless hours to help us fulfill our mission of “Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives.” As both a Volunteer Captain and a Construction Captain, Eddie knows the "ins" and "outs" of our National Rebuilding Day program. He especially enjoys the problem-solving that comes with an NRD site -- sorting out all the logistics and thinking of ways to improve. His optimistic attitude, devotion, and leadership skills create a collaborative environment.
Thank you for helping us get things done, Eddie!

RTP recently helped Naomi, a Belle Haven homeowner who just celebrated her 100th birthday. When Naomi and her husband moved into her home in 1948, they were the first African American and Native American family on the block. Since then, the home has been the epicenter of many precious memories -- it's where her children were born and raised, where loved ones prepared and ate dinner together and where birthdays and holidays were celebrated. Along with memories, time brings changes, and wear and tear on a house. But volunteers from Facebook and JJ Albanese Inc. helped install grab bars, smoke/CO detectors, and motion detectors/lights. They repaired windows and repaved the driveway. Now, Naomi and her daughter, Diane, can remain in their home without worrying about a deteriorating house.

A spongy bathroom floor is a clear cause for concern. When a floor flexes, a rotting subfloor is likely to blame -- the leading cause of a rotting subfloor is a leak. Fortunately, Safe at Home (SAH) technicians have the skills to identify leaks and remedy the problem. SAH is our year-round program where we resolve a variety of household issues, from putting in security doors to installing smoke detectors. This quarter, SAH has made 29 homes safe and healthy for homeowners in need. By addressing critical issues such as ventilation, pests, and electrical needs, SAH ensures our homeowners are on
solid ground
