HART helps at the Folsom Rodeo July 3, 4, and 5

Folsom Rodeo July 3, 4 and 5! HART Volunteers Needed!

During the July 4th weekend, HART volunteers work together at the main entry gate of the famous Folsom Rodeo – a fundraiser for our programs and a great time of service to all who come to the festivities. We’re in the shade, but please come prepared for a very warm evening. We have rest breaks, dinner, cold water and ice. 10 volunteers and 1 substitute are needed for each evening 4:30pm - 9:00pm – please help us with this summertime service! It's a really fun time together! Signup and learn more. We need your help!

HANDS FOR HOPE 2025

Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference is a youth-led, service learning and outreach organization with the mission of inspiring and empowering youth in leadership and service. Youth explore social issues, choose and design service projects, and lead these projects from start to finish. This year students from Folsom Middle School and Sutter Middle School graciously chose HART of Folsom as their local service program for two fundraisers in 2025. The students held fundraisers with a focus on providing dollars to support the cost of bus passes that HART of Folsom needs for its clients – a $600 donation has been made to HART for this specific purpose. Also, Sutter Middle School donated a new bike for client transportation to work and local stores for necessities.

Thank you to our wonderful middle school students who are AMAZING!

Volunteer Board Member Highlight

Vijay Jonnalagadda

Vijay first came to HART as a volunteer for the Folsom Winter Shelter. He strongly believes in HART’s mission of helping the unhoused in a methodical way so that they can get off the streets permanently. Also, he is very impressed by HART's record of reducing homelessness last year by 10% with no monetary help from the government.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING CLIENT UPDATE

HART of Folsom is blessed to be able to help unhoused individuals in Folsom build new lives, relationships, and the belief in themselves that they are capable, strong, and can move forward as a success in society. This month we are showcasing Denis, a young man with tremendous potential, who needed support to become more self-sufficient and independent. Here are Denis’s thoughts about his journey to date with HART of Folsom's Transitional Housing Program: Testimonial

If you are interested in helping HART's Transitional Housing Program, here are a few needs we’d love to get your help with.

Gently Used Car Donations for clients who are working full time but do not have the means to buy a car. The criteria for a client receiving a car is that they have completed 4 months of full-time work and remain employed, have saved $1500 to pay for their insurance, registration smog check, and gas. Transportation is a large limiting factor for many of our clients. But if they have the determination to meet the criteria, we believe this will aid in moving the client into successful permanent housing and uplifting their employment opportunities to success.

New Client Welcome Baskets

Baskets could provide items such as paper products (toilet and hand towels), instant coffee, small milk, peanut butter, jelly, and bread, soups, chili, energy bars, or other food that the client might have for the first couple of days at HART.

Job Opportunities Partner

Many of our clients come with limited job experience or skills, or they simply are not presenting themselves as the best candidates for opportunities offered.

All of HART clients can perform at a job, and complete the application and interview process, but they may not have a learned skill. We are looking for employers that are willing to partner with HART of Folsom to give our clients a trial job for a few hours a week with pay to aid us in learning what opportunities an individual may or may not have a capacity to perform in their future.

Referrals to low-cost room shares in our area. If you come across an opportunity for a room share with a cost of less than $1,000 per month, we would love the referral, and our Case Manager will aid the client who qualifies in applying for that opportunity.

HART of Folsom Clients go through a rigorous application and interview process. Our entry criteria are that they are drug free, capable and willing to work, and engage positively with the interviewer. Potential clients are interviewed by the Director of Transitional Housing, the Case Manager, and a member of the HART Board or HART Volunteer.

All interviewers must agree that a potential client is eligible.

OPEN MOSQUE DAY EVENT

On Saturday May 31st, the Muslim Community of Folsom invited our community to meet Muslim friends and neighbors to explore and take part in discussions with the goal of fostering a better understanding of Islam.

The Muslim Community of Folsom is a wonderful supporter of HART of Folsom and several of our Board Members attended the event.

Thank you for offering this opportunity to broaden our understanding of Islam and learning more about the relationship of the religions of Buddha, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammad which all believe in the “one god.”

Mid-Spring Fling Results

We would like to thank Leatherby's and everyone that came out and supported our fundraiser. Total sales were well over $600 and we plan to do it again in July! Stand by for more ice cream shenanigans at Leatherby's!
