Serra Club of Indianapolis Members,
Several members have expressed an interest in attending the convention and some are already booked. It’s not likely that another Serra International convention will be held this close to us in our lifetime. So this is your chance to attend without the costly expense of airfare.
I did some research on transportation and found that Amtrak and Greyhound Bus have partnered to offer both train and bus service to and from Chicago. I found the bus to be faster and the available times better for our itinerary. Here is what I found:
- On October 7, 2021 the Amtrak/Greyhound bus leaves Indianapolis at 11:00 am (eastern time) from the station at 350 S. Illinois St. downtown Indianapolis and arrives in Chicago at 2:35 pm (central time) at Union Station 225 S. Canal St.
- The Palmer House Hilton Hotel is located 0.8 miles away. You can walk if you are feeling fit or you can take the nearby CTA bus on Jackson St. and it will drop you off 0.1 mi. from the hotel, or you can take a taxi, Uber, etc.
- The Traveler’s Mass is at 5 pm and the Welcome Reception is at 6 pm Thursday giving you plenty of time to check into your room.
- On Sunday October 10, 2021 the Traveler’s Mass is at 8 am and the return home bus leaves the Canal Street station at 9:45 am (central time) and arrives in downtown Indy at 3:35 pm (eastern time). That leaves you enough time to attend Mass and get to the bus station, but you cannot be tarty. The next bus/train is late in the afternoon and arrives in Indy late at night.
- The roundtrip price on the Amtrak website is $66 per person.
- If you are planning to go, do not wait too much longer to book the convention and hotel. Serra has already had to ask for more rooms at the special price of $149 per night and they may sellout. The convention price is $350 until July 31st. Then the price goes up to $450.
There will be free time on Friday and Saturday to sight see, relax, or take a walk on the lakefront. If you are interested in going, please let me know so that we can coordinate our travel.
God bless,
